A December 2025 Google review changed from five stars to one. The customer had hired Cutting Edge Contracting for a garage roof and first wrote that Spencer, the owner, and his crew finished it in a few days. In the update, they wrote that the shingles were not properly secured, that tape was left on them, and that they started coming off after a year. The same reviewer wrote that the company "went under shortly after this job so we have no recourse." On Thumbtack, the Ellsworth company describes itself as a fully insured general contracting business that has built homes in the Hancock County area. In an April 2019 Thumbtack review, a customer wrote that it installed carpet in four rooms plus a hall and stairway in a couple of days. In March 2019, Pete Higgins wrote that he and his wife had used Cutting Edge Contracting for multiple projects over the previous 12 years.
**UPDATE** Disappointed to say the shingles were NOT properly secured in place. Tape wasn't removed from them, and most had 2 staples. They started coming off after a year. Our on has to routinely climb onto the roof to re-attach. This company went under shortly after this job so we have no recourse. Originally review 5 stars!! We were in need of a skilled, reliable, reasonably priced roofing contractor for a garage. Asking for recommendations via Ellsworth Maine area Barter/Swap/Sell Facebook group, we received an overwhelming response. Three of the 25+ names given stood out from the crowd. Long story short, in the end, we chose Cutting Edge Contracting for the job based on responsiveness, availability, knowledge, experience, professionalism and cost. Spencer, the owner, is an intelligent, energetic young man with whom we felt very comfortable with. Spencer and his crew got the roof done in a matter of just a few days. Overall, we are completely satisfied with the job performed from start to finish. We would have no hesitation in recommending this company to others. Our plan is to hire them in the future for other projects. Thanks Spencer!
Cutting edge Is excellent at the service they provided me. They were knowledgable and efficient. Their craftsmanship was excellent They installed carpet in 4 rooms plus a hall and stairway in a couple of days. I reccomend them highly to anyone looking for a service they provide.
My Wife and I have used Cutting Edge Contracting for multiple projects over the last 12 years. We couldn't be happier with the service they provide and we would highly recommend them anyone considering them for their project. Pete Higgins
