Across twelve years of Google ratings — 4.7 from 26 — homeowners describe a siding job, a Trex deck, a gutted bathroom, and then credit Mike Shapiro personally for how it went. The Peabody company says it has been in business since 1959 and describes itself as family- and locally-owned, working the North Shore out to Andover, Beverly, Gloucester, Marblehead and Melrose. Its own site lists kitchens and baths, windows and doors, decks, additions and siding, and the reviews bear out that spread rather than one narrow trade. The same customers keep coming back. A 2023 reviewer listed a full siding job on a three-family plus a deck-and-stairs replacement and said "I always call him first." A 2014 customer counted ten years of projects — vinyl siding, Harvey replacement windows, and the right attic vents to keep a squirrel out of the house. Bathrooms recur: a 2025 homeowner had a small bath completely redone, and a 2023 customer's renovated bathroom "came out better than I could have dreamed." So do kitchens — a 2025 full remodel that followed a bad run with a different contractor, and a 2023 flood rebuild where D&H redesigned a kitchen, bath and laundry room and moved staircases in an 1850s house. Two accounts cut the other way. In a 2020 review a homeowner called the work sloppy: repeat callbacks that amounted to caulking, a rushed finish at the end, and grey trim installed where they had asked for white. Separately, a March 2025 reviewer accused the company of posting one-star ratings on competitors' listings, and in an edit pointed to a one-star review D&H had left for a handyman service questioning its experience and licenses. That is a claim about conduct rather than craftsmanship, but it is a specific one. Availability is the practical catch. In a February 2026 review — still a five-star one — a customer said Mike warned up front that the crew was very busy and the job could be a while, and it was. Its BBB profile carries an A+ with accreditation and lists VSI and CertainTeed certifications; Houzz lists a longer set including GAF Master Elite, Azek, Deckorators and Therma Tru, and shows 5.0 from four ratings. D&H suits a homeowner who wants one long-established crew for an exterior package or a full-room renovation and does not need it started next week. Before signing, get the finish specifics — trim colors, the punch list, who comes back for callbacks — written into the contract, and ask for a realistic start date rather than an optimistic one.
