D. Howard Custom Carpentry is a one-person shop in Westwood taking the kind of work you cannot buy off a shelf: cabinets, shelves and bookcases, walls, doors, finish work, and replacing sections of an existing structure rather than patching them. Thumbtack describes it as a side business Daniel Howard has run for seven years. In November 2019 a customer described exactly that kind of job. Daniel designed and built two doors from scratch for their backyard basement, copying the shape of the older doors that had been falling apart; the customer wrote that they came out beautifully and work great, and that he was easy to communicate with. Fifteen project photos sit on the Thumbtack profile alongside that account. For a homeowner with a one-off carpentry job — a built-in, a set of doors, a stretch of wall or trim that needs replacing — he is a sensible call. Ask how a side-business schedule lines up with your timeline, and get the scope and the finish work spelled out in the quote before he starts.
Daniel designed and implemented two doors for our basement in our backyard. He created the doors from scratch to mimic the other doors we had before (that were falling apart). They came out beautifully and work great. He was very easy to communicate with and was upfront with what he needed to do, how much it would be, and how long it would take. Very professional and I would definitely reach out to Daniel for future work.
