Sixty-two permits tell one story about Danny Cerqueira's Construction; the people who have written about it tell another, and the gap between them is what a homeowner has to weigh. The permit trail is real and broad. Working from 2 Norma Way in Middleton — an LLC the Better Business Bureau records as starting in October 2004, incorporated in 2011, with eight employees and Danny Cerqueira as president — the company has pulled permits across Middleton, Topsfield, Danvers, Peabody, Beverly, Groveland, Cambridge, Charlestown, Revere and Boston. The jobs range from bathroom restorations after water damage up to a $315,000 three-floor addition and a $199,700 new single-family house. On Houzz the company says it has served Massachusetts for over ten years, and lists general contracting, home remodeling, custom kitchen and bath building, decks, roofing and siding, and windows, naming Nahant among the towns it covers. The written accounts are fewer, and mostly unhappy. BuildZoom shows 2.0 out of 5 from two reviews. In January 2025 one described being owed $9,500 as a subcontractor, warned about liens on the homeowner's property, and said the company was quick to respond up to the point payment was due. In April 2017 a Cambridge homeowner wrote that they had chosen Danny over other bidders on the strength of his estimate and references, then met months of unreturned calls and an unsigned contract and hired someone else; the company replied on that profile that the work had always been scheduled for mid-summer and that no contract, permit or deposit had been in place. The BBB page pulls the other way — an A+ grade, with praise there for completed building work alongside a complaint about appointments not being kept. The licensing needs settling before anything else. BuildZoom's records show a Massachusetts general contractor licence, #165247, expired since 23 January 2014, four home improvement contractor registrations all listed inactive, and a banner saying no active licence is on file. Those are the directory's own records rather than a state check, so ask for current HIC registration and construction supervisor numbers, verify them with the state yourself, and get certificates of insurance in hand. For a large addition or a whole-house job, there is genuine depth of permitted work behind this company. Confirm the licensing, put payment milestones and a schedule in the contract, and ask for references from jobs closed within the last year.
This contractor doesn't pay there sub contractors, owes 9500$ to a sub and is unresponsive. Very responsive when they needed estimate, very responsive when they need the work done and non responsive when it comes to paying . If you don't want to have a lien on your home do not hire .
After a wider review & RFP from multiple contractors in the Cambridge area, we decided to go with Danny due to his professional response, competitive estimate, and positive references. Unfortunately, after this things began to decline - minimal responsiveness, delays in signing the final contract, and extending the project timelines. I had multiple calls with Teddi (his very professional & hard-working assistant) as I could not get him on the phone, wrote regular emails, and simply tried to move the project forward. I do not know exactly what the cause was (did he overcommit himself to another project?) but the end result was that we decided to move on and go with another contractor. I am sorry to have to say that Danny's professional first impression did not translate into a trustworthy and reliable contractor. I do not leave this review with any animosity - but I would not recommend him to anyone ... my experience is that this type of passive delay & unresponsiveness reflects on the trustworthiness of the contractor - and would only continue throughout the renovation.
I paid Danny REMOVEDas a deposit for three replacement windows for my office condo in Oct 2024. He has scheduled appointments with me and doesn't show.
We couldnt be happier with our experience with Danny Cerqueiras Construction. Danny and his team built our home faster than we ever expectedwithout cutting corners or compromising on quality.
I recently had a garage addition built by Cerqueiras Construction, and I couldnt be more impressed with the entire experience. Danny, the owner, was professional, dependable, and genuinely committed to doing quality work.
