Five reviews, all posted in March 2026, all saying some version of the same thing: they showed up fast and didn't gouge. That is the whole written customer history of Definition Heating, Cooling & Plumbing so far — unusually consistent for a company people keep calling when something has already broken. The company works out of Taunton and says it has been doing HVAC and plumbing in Massachusetts for more than 20 years, describing itself as locally owned and personally invested. Its Angi and HomeAdvisor profiles, which list the business at 539 Atherton St. in Milton, add that it is veteran owned and operated. It names more than a dozen towns it covers — Boston, Braintree, Brockton, Bridgewater and Milton among them — and calls itself a Mass Save heat pump installer. What people actually hired them for this spring was breakdown work. One homeowner's boiler quit; Definition came out on short notice, walked through pricing and future maintenance, and — the line that sticks — "did not take advantage of my emergency and price gouge me." Another had a leaking water heater replaced the same way: quickly, by an installer who knew the unit, at a cost the homeowner called very reasonable. A third had a winter-burst outdoor spigot repaired by two technicians, Daniel and Andrew, and booked them again for HVAC and boiler service. Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 5.0 from five ratings, though those are the same five Google reviews re-posted to both sites rather than three separate bodies of feedback. Two things are worth raising before you book. The Massachusetts registry shows the HVAC licence the company publishes on its own site, 15216-SM-A, as expired, with Joshua E David as the holder of record — so ask which current licence covers your job and who holds it. The other numbers, 755 on Angi and HomeAdvisor and 4614 on the company's site, are claims the company and those directories make, not anything a registry confirmed. They look like a sensible call for a homeowner whose heat or hot water has just failed and who wants a straight price on short notice. Ask for current licence and insurance certificates in writing, and get the job itemized before anyone starts work.
