Dexkos Inc is a Cambridge design-build shop built around one thing: decks, and the porches, sunrooms and railings that go with them. The company describes itself as family-owned and says it has served the greater Boston area — Cambridge, Boston, Newton, Somerville, Lexington, Watertown, Waltham and several towns beyond — for over a decade, with owner Matthew Bergwall named repeatedly by customers as the one on site running the crew. The written record backs that up. Across eight reviews from 2020 through 2024 on HomeAdvisor and Angi, Bergwall and his team hold a 4.9-star average, and the same specifics keep recurring: a full roof-deck rebuild and extension on a Cambridgeport triple-decker where permits were pulled and refiled properly (one 2022 reviewer noted other estimators had suggested skipping that step entirely), and carpenter-ant damage found mid-job on two separate occasions — in 2020 and again in 2021 — and cleared so the existing deck could be salvaged rather than torn out and rebuilt. A 2024 customer who worked with the crew for over two years on a larger addition called Bergwall "very trustworthy and honest." Two things are worth asking about before booking. The company's tenure is reported inconsistently across sources — its own site says "over a decade," the Better Business Bureau lists 9 years in business, and HomeAdvisor's profile states 18 — so it's worth asking directly how long Dexkos itself has operated. And while BBB, where the company is A+ rated and accredited, lists two Massachusetts registration numbers for the company, those are BBB's own listing rather than an independent state-registry check, so it's reasonable to ask to see the licenses directly. Dexkos is a fit for a homeowner planning a new deck, porch, or sunroom, or repairing storm or insect damage to an existing one, particularly around Cambridge, Somerville, or the near suburbs. Confirm current registration and get a written scope before signing, as with any remodeling contractor.
Our experience with Matthew Bergwall, Dexksos' owner, and his team was great. We did a very large project during the covid years and thus had Matthew and his team around our home for a span of 2+ years. The team was amazing. We have had lots and lots of work done on our house of the 14 years we have owned it, and Matthew and his team were the easiest to have around of all the teams. They were polite, kind, clean, neat, and did great work. The work itself is second to none. Matthew's approach was embodied by his entire team - the focus on quality and precision resulted in an end product that has stood the test of two years. We have had no issues with any of the construction...of the deck or of the room addition. Project management: Matthew met with us regularly to go over the work, timing, any delays, budget, changes in budget due to our adjustments to the original plan etc. He was always open, honest, direct, and upfront. Matthew is very trustworthy and honest and we recommend him and Dexksos without any hesitation. You'll see evidence of Dexksos' great work in the pictures accompanying this review.
High quality work, very professional , easy to work with.
Matthew was recommended by neighbors and we would recommend him as well now, following his building a back deck for us. He and his crew member worked diligently and effectively, addressing any issues that arose, producing an end product that he now features on his website. Matthew communicated nicely with us, keeping us informed all along the way, as well as helping obtain good results related to the supply of materials when extras were needed. We are very pleased with our new deck.
Dexksos did a wonderful job rebuilding our deck, repairing some rotted wooden trim around the house, and rebuilt a wooden window frame after we removed an interior window. They are a pleasure to work with. Kind, capable, and excellent communicators. Would hire them again for any carpentry needs.
Overall - I rate Matthew and his team as a 4.5 (almost, not quite 5). He basically designed and built a complete rebuild/extension to an existing roof deck on a triple decker in Cambridgeport. Matthew was personable, understood my preferences in style and values and was flexible in the design and material selection. He was always 'above-board' (several other contractors had told me, when estimating the work, said: 'we can just do the work without a permit') - he permitted the initial work efficiently and the subsequent refiling for modifications after underway. My only concern was the delay in getting the project going, but that is not unsurprising in the covid context. I understood we were 'next in line' after another project that took longer than anticipated. I appreciated the honesty and clear communication throughout the wait. Once underway, the team was clean and courteous and very respectful of my neighbors (who commented to me positively about the team, unsolicited). Matthew put in extra hours to get the work done quickly. The final product came out great. Looking forward to enjoying it fully this year! (signed contract in Nov 20; work started ~June 21; finished ~July 21).
