Verified record
Direct Electric is a one-man-and-crew Gloucester operation built around its owner, Paul — practically every review names him directly, which is unusual for how consistent the praise is. Fourteen reviews across Google and Thumbtack, running from 2021 through mid-2024, describe him as responsive, on time, and straightforward about pricing, with several customers saying they've used him more than once and plan to keep calling him. The jobs described go well beyond bulb-and-switch work. A 2024 review describes Paul and his crew upgrading a 100-amp panel to 200 amps and adding a new outlet for an electric stove; a 2023 review describes a same-visit rewire — new wiring for an electric range, every outlet and switch in a kitchen replaced, plus recessed lighting; and a 2022 review recounts Paul being the only one of several quoting electricians who actually inspected the situation before pricing the job, then finishing on time and on budget and coming back promptly when a minor issue turned up afterward. On Thumbtack, Direct Electric carries a 4.9★ rating from 66 reviews, a Top Pro badge for 2021 through 2023, a background-checked badge, and a license-verified journeyman electrician listing — though that verification is Thumbtack's own, not something checked against the state registry here. Its Angi profile puts the business at 17 years of experience but shows zero Angi or HomeAdvisor reviews, and sits a little out of step with Thumbtack's own listing of 5 years in business — worth asking about directly. There's no review on file more recent than mid-2024, so the strong, consistent record here runs a couple of years back rather than reflecting anything confirmed since — still, for panel work, rewiring, or general electrical jobs, the written history through 2024 reads as a genuinely well-liked, careful operator.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Direct Electric. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
Flush mounts, pendants, chandeliers — hung on existing boxes.

I hired Paul a few months back to install a ceiling fan. He did an excellent job at a great price and cleaned up after the project.
Paul and his crew upgraded our electrical panel from 100 to 200 amps and added a new outlet for our electric stove. They were professional, timely, and did great work. Highly recommend and will call them again for future work!
Had a great experience with Direct Electric. Came to give me a quote, no pressure. Was super responsive & did a clean, great job installing new light fixtures & two outlets! Would highly recommend!
Recommending Paul for great work! He was easy to get in touch with and had my project done from start of the conversation to completed quickly. (A few new outlets, grounding etc) was very knowledgeable and was great to work with. Everything came out great
I have had Direct Electric/Paul do a couple of jobs at my house. He is responsive, prompt, and communicates. He is also very knowledgeable on the codes and practical ways to get the jobs done. I have lots more jobs and wouldn’t consider using anyone else.
