Direct Fuel is a Peabody, Massachusetts heating-oil and diesel supplier that also installs, maintains and repairs boilers, furnaces and burners, with 24/7 emergency service. The company says it's family-owned, and it's been operating since 1998. The eight Google reviews on file split fairly evenly. On the positive side, a customer of six years describes the company getting a technician out quickly whenever a burner acts up, including one visit — to fix an accidentally flipped emergency switch — that wasn't charged at all. In a January 2026 review, a customer describes Joe from the service team arriving on a cold December night and getting a dead boiler running again quickly and professionally. A few shorter reviews from 2021 through 2025 echo the same theme: prompt, friendly service. The negatives are more specific. In a March 2026 review, a customer describes repeated visits where Direct Fuel flagged boiler 'issues' that a second, independent boiler company later found weren't real — including a dispute over an overfilled oil tank the company blamed on a valve the other company said was fine. A January 2025 review describes rude phone service and air getting into an oil line. A 2024 review calls the company simply 'unfair to customers,' with no further detail. Recent activity is mixed too: three reviews in the last six months, one of them negative. Nothing here suggests the reviewers were dealing with a different company — the split is about how service calls and billing get handled, worth asking about directly before signing a service contract.
Customer for 6 years. Any time I had an issue with my burner they've been great at getting someone out quickly to take a look. One time I accidently had flipped my emergency off switch and they came out, immediately knew the issue, and didn't charge for the visit. I was very appreciative and embarrassingly gave the two guys who showed up the only cash I had, a whopping $6. 😅 Always able to deliver next business day. Just all around good service. 🫡
I have had nothing but poor customer service from Direct Fuel. They have serviced my boiler a few times and each time have let me know of “issues” that were not a problem prior to them coming and when checked by a different reputable boiler company have turned out to be not correct by Direct Fuel. They also overfilled my oil tank and then tried to blame me by saying it was because of a faulty whistle valve that was not in code. Again, had a different company check the valve who claimed it was fine. I have never had any issues with any of my boiler equipment until I started doing business with them. This is just a couple of examples of their poor business practices. Also, they do not communicate well, technicians are unprofessional and in my opinion not qualified in the work they do. They are quick to “blame the customer” for any issues that come up. I would absolutely not recommend Direct Fuel.

We had a boiler issue late one pretty cold night at the end of December. Joe from Direct Fuels service team came out in a timely manner and was able to get the boiler up and running relatively quickly. He was friendly and professional even though it was late and cold. Between the consistent oil deliveries and prompt service requests to keep the family warm, Direct Fuel has delivered.
