On its BBB page, Discount Oil of Keene describes itself as a family-owned home comfort company established in Keene, NH, offering fuel oil, propane, and heating and cooling services. Its website claims 50 years in business and lists Chesterfield, Dublin, Hinsdale, Peterborough, Rindge, Winchester and other nearby towns in its service area. The BBB grades it A+. A 2024 customer on a road the county posts with a mud-season warning said the company would drive up to see how muddy it was and give it a shot, when other oil companies would not risk it. A 2025 customer who ran out of oil said one phone call got oil delivered and the furnace reprimed in about 30 minutes. A 2025 customer said the driver left a dog treat every time they refilled. A 2024 customer said they had switched to Discount Oil about eight years earlier for delivery and service on their furnace and AC units, and that the technicians explained the issue and the solution. A recent reviewer said a friend's tank was filled but the heat was not lit, the company wanted an extra charge to come back, and the manager called the friend a liar. A recent former customer told others to stay away, saying the company is associated with L&G propane. A 2026 customer said they waited over two weeks for a delivery that never came before asking for their money back. A 2025 customer said a tank inspection found a leak they were never told about, and 50 to 75 gallons of heating oil went into their dirt basement over 2.5 weeks. That 2025 customer said hazardous material cleanup teams removed contaminated sand, and that the owner, Lou, told them on the phone heating oil is not a hazardous material. A 2025 customer said they went three weeks without heat in November, were charged for an oil delivery that came only after they chased it, and stopped hearing back after asking about a furnace quote.

This company is associated with L&G propane. Stay away from both companies. I have used discount oil in the past and switched. Worst customer service ever.
My friend finally got fuel assistance where she rents - She called these jokers and asked them to fill 'er up and light the starter and have everything ready to go since she doesn't know how to start the thing. They filled her up and didn't light anything. She called them and said, I have no heat, why is this not working? They responded, "Oh, you never asked us to light it. If you want us back there, it will be an extra $200 charge. " She protested and then talked to the manager. He called her a liar. Turns out, they have pulled "extra charge" stunt with other folks too. I can't WAIT to hear about a class action lawsuit against them, there will be sooo many people chiming in. They definitely prey on the poor and then they brown nose landlords so they don't have to stand by honorable work ethic with the tenants.
Not reliable waited over 2 weeks for a delivery that never came before I asked for my money back..knowing I had very little oil they told me to call when they opened to make sure my ticket was on there truck it never was they said they would make sure it was on the for tomorrow well tomorrow never came. Seriously unreliable

Update 12/23/25 I woke up, accidentally ran out of oil. 1 Phone call. Oil delivered and furnace reprimed in all of about 30 minutes. Wow. Consistently the best price in Keene. Ten cent discount for cash/fast payment. Good people. I've only used their service once, but the fellow was competent. Who can ask for more? I'm confused about the below rating since I, almost always, just ask for the minimum fill which I think is 150 gallons and there's never been a charge for that. They do charge for emergency fills and fills less than minimum. Hey those trucks aren't free or cheap to run. Very helpful staff, in person and on the phone. Recommended. **updated 11-20. Had a oil water heater failure that I could not fix. Prompt response, superb tech who was very knowledgeable. Total cost much less than I had expected.
