Distinctive Tile and Design

Distinctive Tile and Design describes itself on Houzz as tile and stone showrooms, and its Houzz listing offers tile sales, design and labor. Its self-description on the Better Business Bureau calls it a carpeting showroom and ceramic tile design center, says all of its stores provide installation, and says the company was established in Maine in 1988. The BBB gives it an A+ grade. The local site mainehomedesign.com has written about its showroom on Forest Avenue in Portland and a newer location in Kennebunk. A 2025 customer said they worked with the company on a kitchen and bathroom remodel, from picking out tile to installation, and loved the tile work in both rooms. A 2025 reviewer wrote of doing three major home projects with Distinctive Tile over four years and credited Kerry with matching grout. A 2024 reviewer called Larry the owner and said they had seen the company's workmanship in multi-million-dollar homes as well as smaller jobs. A 2024 customer said they use the company for residential and commercial projects and praised its fair pricing. A 2023 customer praised the selection but said they would not return because of a lack of communication and follow-up. In a 2016 Houzz review, a customer said they waited over three months for tile for a kitchen backsplash with a niche, then learned more materials had to be ordered, and called the prices inflated. In a 2014 Houzz review, a customer said the glass subway tiles on their kitchen backsplash were installed unevenly and a representative agreed the job had been done badly; that customer said they heard nothing for three months, and after their kitchen professional intervened, the owner came and installed new tiles correctly.
