Doherty Customs is a Hull-based construction and roofing contractor run by Eric Doherty, a hands-on master craftsman the company says has been licensed since 2008 and is on-site at every project. It's an Owens Corning Preferred Roofing Contractor, and its own site describes a focus on historic home restoration and full-service construction across Boston's South Shore. The reviews back up the range: a front door replacement that several other contractors had already turned down as impossible, which Eric solved after actually studying the problem; a rubber roof built with custom sanded rafters to work on an unusually shallow 2-3 pitch that a 2020 review reported was still holding up five years later with zero issues; a second-floor porch rebuild that included reshaping a bay-window wall and installing new windows; and a custom bedroom platform with steps and a larger window, built from the homeowner's own hand-drawn sketch specifically to open up a view of the Bay. Customers also describe Eric personally engineering a windproof stove-fan exhaust design, and being brought in to fix work other contractors had gotten wrong. One homeowner who hired him for a small project said it grew into a number of others around a newly purchased home, including a full kitchen renovation, and called it the first time in years of working with contractors that they'd had only positive things to say about one. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is verified active against the state registry, and its BBB page carries an A+ grade with 19 years in business listed, though it isn't BBB-accredited. For roofing, carpentry, or a full remodel on a South Shore home — especially an older one with quirks other contractors won't touch — the reviews describe a hands-on owner who solves the problem rather than passing on it.
The work, the advice, the cleanup, the whole project was run with friendliness and professionalism. The outcome was beyond our expectations. At each step if something was discovered the project leader Dan would consult with us before proceeding. We are most pleased and would work with Doherty team again!
Very professional. Accurate detail of work to be performed. Schedule and accomplished on time.
Installed house and basement windows and storm doors. They did an excellent job. The crew was polite, on-time, and they cleaned up after each job. They even went above and beyond to find the proper moulding. They will be doing additional work in the Spring. I'd highly recommend them!
We recently replaced our front door and honestly weren’t sure it was even possible. We had several other contractors come out, and every one of them said the job couldn’t be done. Then Eric from Doherty Customs showed up and proved otherwise. He took the time to actually look at the situation, came up with a solution, and got the job done as quickly as possible. The workmanship was excellent, the communication was clear, and the whole process was far less stressful than we expected after being told “no” so many times. If you want someone who knows what they’re doing and doesn’t back down from a challenge, Doherty Customs is the company to call. Steve Dunne Hull Ma
