Downing Landscape Services is an Arlington company that says it has served the area since 1980, when Bill Downing founded it. BBB lists commercial and residential landscaping, lawn maintenance, excavation, and construction; the company’s site also names landscape design, lighting, snow removal, and related maintenance work. The only written customer account is dated January 2021 and is mixed. The homeowner called the work quite good but said mowing and shrubbery bills were four to five times higher than two other local bids, leading them to switch providers. Google shows a two-star rating from one rating, while BBB gives the business an A+ grade and says it is not accredited. Price is the question to settle before booking: request a detailed written scope and compare recurring maintenance costs locally. The company is a fit to investigate for Arlington landscaping and seasonal work, but confirm current pricing, responsibilities, and licensing before signing.

When I bought our house in Arlington, Downing landscape services was recommended to me by the former owner as they had maintained the property for quite some time. Trying to be a good neighbor, I decided to keep the relationship going. However, upon receiving my first and some subsequent bills I was absolutely shocked at how high the services were for mowing and maintaining the shrubbery and lawn. I will say that the work he and his team did was quite good, but he was at least 4 to 5 times above two other bids that I had gotten from other local providers. Naturally, I switched providers with notice. And now, nearly a year and a half after we had parted ways he is asking for an outstanding balance of $30 or he’ll take me to claims court. Of course I will be paying the $30 but I really question the professionalism of someone who is threatening me with court fees vs just letting me know there was a balance. Steer clear of his high fees and passive aggressive communications.
