DSC Painting and Construction works out of Everett, and despite the name on the sign, the one detailed account on file is about a roof, not a paint job. In a review dated December 2013, a customer described the crew stripping and replacing an entire pitched roof on a three-family home in under 48 hours, timed to beat an incoming snowstorm. On Angi, where the profile is marked 'Approved,' the business lists roofing, decks and remodeling as its work, with 28 years of experience. The written record here is thin and dated: three reviews on file, all from 2013 to 2016, nothing since. A 2016 Angi review calls the crew 'prompt and very professional.' The same year, a BuildZoom review told a different story: a customer who hired the business for an interior staircase said the result was unsafe, with uneven stair heights and mismatched handrails, that the owner showed up only occasionally, and that he eventually said he'd let another worker use his license for the job. The customer said a city inspector confirmed the stairs were dangerous and that they hired an attorney after repeated requests for a fix went nowhere. License status is worth confirming directly. BuildZoom's records show a Painter registration with the City of Newton (#87797) that expired in 2017, while Angi lists a different Massachusetts license (#138301) valid through 2027 for the same business — the two don't agree, and neither is a state-verified registration, so ask to see current, checkable licensing and insurance before signing anything. Given how old and mixed the record is — one serious complaint about safety and licensing sitting next to praise for a fast roof job, and nothing written since 2016 — this is one to vet carefully: confirm the current license number directly with the state, ask for recent references, and get the scope of work and licensing in writing before anything structural begins.

“He and his men stripped the entire roof (pitched roof) of my 3 family home and installed a new roof in less than 48 hours.”
The owner of this company is an unethical businessman, who plays fast and loose with his license. I finally broke down and hired an attorney. I have a dangerous, new set of interior stairs in my home. Last November, Douglas Arevalo pulled a permit with the City of Chelsea for this project. He showed up occasionally (usually to smooth things over when I was fed up with the progress and quality of the work), sometimes alone and other times with a crew. When it became obvious to me that the stairs were unsafe (uneven stair heights, winder stairs that had no stair directly beneath them, hand rails that were much higher in some places than others, etc.) and no one had shown up for several days, I went to the city. The Chelsea Inspector's Office issued a violation report. The city inspector, while standing in my Living Room, placed a call to Mr. Arevalo and informed him that the stairs were dangerous and he was responsible for replacing them. Repeated requests to have Mr. Arevalo return and complete the work have not yielded any results. Mr. Arevalo claims that he was merely letting another worker use his license (renting out his license) and should not be held responsible for the unfinished, unsafe staircase. He also claimed that he already had more work than he could handle and didn't have the time or manpower to correct the work. With so much work, it's surprising that he would jeopardize his license pulling permits for others. I hired an engineering firm to assess the staircase. Their report indicates that it violates MA building codes from the top step to the bottom and must be torn out.
They were prompt and very processional, did a great job.
DSC Construction is an incredible company to work with. Douglas - owner is the up-most professional and has a great crew of guys working for him. He meets all his deadlines and surpasses some of them. He and his men stripped the entire roof (pitched roof) of my 3 family home and installed a new roof in less than 48 hours. Just in time for the snowstorm this weekend. I highly recommend DSC Construction for any job you need done. They are licensed & insured! I look forward to working with Douglas and DSC in the near future. I met Douglas - Owner of DSC through a close friend of mine that referred me to him after a contractor I hired to replace my roof could not finish the job. I hired a contractor to replacement the roof. I asked the contractor if he was licensed and insured to work on my roof and he said, "Yes." However, after 5 weeks from the date that we initiated our contract, this contractor had not completed my roof and left all the roofing materials he ordered in my driveway. This prompted me to request a copy of his insurance certificate and license number. Upon further request and my investigative efforts, this contractor had a revoked license and was not insured to work on my roof as well as never presented a permit from the city to work on my roof. This contractor and I agreed that he should not proceed with this job and return to me the 40% deposit that I gave him. The contractor also left all the materials that he orders on my driveway including a palette of 40 roofing shingles. No other roofing companies would work with me in a reasonable fashion except DSC Construction. Douglas saved my hide and worked with me immediately. He also presented his license and insurance information immediately upon request. In less than 10 days, he initiated a contract with me and installed a new roof. If it wasn't for Douglas, my family and I would be in a terrible situation. I fully recommend Douglas to anyone that needs any work done on their house. This company is a truly a blessing!
