E. L. Margetts & Sons, Inc.

E. L. Margetts & Sons says its septic business has passed through four generations of the Margetts family since Edward L. Margetts founded it in 1912. Based in Hingham, the company advertises residential and commercial septic design, installation, pumping and repair, along with Title 5 inspections. Customers have described work beyond pumping a tank. In a January 2023 Google review, one homeowner said Margetts came the same day and repaired a crushed sewer line at their first home, then excavated an area where the homeowner later installed a patio. At a second home, the customer said the company handled septic inspection and annual pumping, excavated the backyard and installed a boulder retaining wall. A separate January 2023 reviewer described a septic installation, yard leveling for a playground and a retaining wall, and praised the company's honesty and professionalism. A June 2023 customer praised Derek's conscientious work while describing annual septic pumping. In January 2024, another reviewer said Margetts helped with an urgent issue and explained the system so they understood it better. More recently, an August 2026 commenter on r/SouthShore recommended Margetts after using it to replace their system. Two Google reviewers raised complaints about drivers in 2025. An April reviewer described a truck turning left in front of them, forcing them to brake with their child in the car; they also alleged obscene gestures and shouting. An August reviewer complained of erratic driving and obscene gestures by someone driving a company-marked vehicle. These were complaints about driving and conduct. Google lists a four-star average from eight ratings.
