EnergySage is a Boston-based online marketplace, not a hands-on installer, that connects homeowners with pre-screened, certified installers for solar, home batteries, heat pumps, and EV charging so they can compare quotes side by side. The company is listed as a member of the Boston Chamber of Commerce and carries an A rating and BBB accreditation. On volume, the record is strong: Google shows a 4.8-star average across more than 1,030 ratings, and a March 2026 reviewer described getting help from EnergySage and its associated contractors as low-pressure and pleasant. That matches what most people use the service for, a fast way to gather several bids without being cold-called by installers directly. Where it gets more complicated is what happens after a homeowner picks an installer through the platform. Reviews describe cases where the referred installer stopped responding, left a system non-producing for months, or in one case placed a lien on a customer's home, with the reviewer saying EnergySage did not step in once a contract was signed. A similar account naming the same installer appears in an older, independent review too, suggesting it isn't a one-off. The three most recent reviews on file, from February and March 2026, are all negative, and one questions whether the added cost EnergySage builds into installer pricing is worth it. The BBB lists 3 complaints against the business itself. Worth confirming before using the service: EnergySage's own accountability appears to end largely at the referral, so ask any installer it connects you with directly about warranty terms, response commitments, and recourse if the work stalls, since that is where the reviews suggest things can go wrong. For comparison-shopping quotes with low sales pressure, the marketplace has a long, mostly positive track record; for confidence that a chosen installer will follow through, the evidence here says to do your own diligence on that specific company.

EnergySage charges a significant cost to the companies they recommend, adding to your cost. They did a good job comparing the company’s, but is it worth the extra cost? Probably not.

UPDATE: I followed the below instructions from Energy Sage and have received no response from them at all. Worse than useless service. Just posting to appear helpful but not doing anything for their customers.

Terrible experience going with a solar installer provided/vetted by EnergySage. Completely useless service that caused me to hire an installer (PlugPV /Palmetto Solar that failed numerous inspections and deadlines. Now the system produces nowhere near estimated power amounts.

Terrible service. Partnered with SolarLeasing who does not return calls and the system they sold us stopped working after 4months from when it was turned on. Nearly 5 mknths later and the system is not producing. Full electricity bill plus solar panel bill and a lein on a house. Great deal right?? No... Run...

I had an awful experience with Energy Sage. They recommended a solar installer (whom I had not heard of) but they assured me it was among their highest rated. I went with the installer ONLY because ES was so strong in their recommendation. Installer went bankrupt. Energy Sage promised me they would help me get my rooftop solar project finished. All words. No actions. I had to do all research how to get permited, etc and project turned on. 17 months from start of project I finally have a finished solar project. I'd give 0 stars if possible

Unresponsive to basic questions. It's easier to find the companies yourself and contact them for quotes.
