Forest House Tile says on its Houzz profile that it designs and makes hand-pressed art tile in its own clay workshop, where it sculpts, glazes and fires the tiles, and that it also installs tile and stone in bathrooms and kitchens. A 2026 Google reviewer wrote that Andy Smith replaced the floor in the shower of their master bathroom. In that 2026 review, the customer said the original tile sat on a styrofoam-like base that deformed over time and let water pool, which led to mold in the grout. The 2026 reviewer said Andy ripped out the old floor, installed the new tile on a mud base, and that all the water in the shower drained off immediately. In a 2014 Houzz review, a customer who built a new house in 2012 said Andy Smith set tile in their kitchen, foyer, mud room and hall, and helped them choose the accent trims for the shower and bath in the master bath. That 2014 reviewer also said Andy worked quietly all day without a boom box. A 2014 Houzz reviewer said Andy was recommended by a design consultant at a tile store and called his price very competitive. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, number HIC.0603514, is expired on the state registry.
We had Andy Smith replace the floor in the shower in our master bathroom last summer. The original floor tile was underlain by a styrofoam-like base that deformed over time, creating places where water could pool. That led to mold problems in the grout. Andy ripped out the old floor and installed the new tile on top of a mud base (very hard like concrete). The new shower floor has been absolutely rock solid for the last 4 months. We are delighted that all the water in our shower now drains off immediately and is able to dry completely between showers. Andy is very professional and very responsive to questions and concerns. His work is impeccable and we would never consider using any one else for any future work of this sort.
When we built our new house in 2012 we wanted all the floors to be either wood or tile, and we wanted the bathrooms to be ceramic tile. We contacted Andy Smith who was recommended by a friend, and from the first time Andy met with us to discuss our vision for the tile work he was a pleasure to work with, and very helpful with suggestions as to the best way to proceed. We chose the tile we wanted, and then Andy worked with us to design a combination of sizes or additional accent pieces to complement the tile we had chosen. In the large, open style kitchen Andy worked with a variety of different size tiles from very large ones to much smaller ones and he then set them in a very interesting and pleasing way. Likewise in the master bath, Andy helped us choose the accent trims for the shower and bath, and the right mix of large tiles on the floor and smaller ones inside the shower and around the bath. He also set the tiles in the foyer, mud room and hall, and worked carefully to make sure where two different tiles met or where the ceramic tiles met with the wood floors that the transition was flawless and pleasing. Andy Smith is a master at his craft. Also, Andy was always a pleasure to have in the house as he worked tirelessly and quietly all day without the “boom box” accompaniment that so many contractors bring with them. The finished product is incredible, and we can say with all honesty that everyone who comes to our home comments on the tile floors, and the absolutely stunning master bath. We love everything that Andy did for us, and his work is admired by every visitor who steps across our threshold. Sylvia and Dennis Heffley, Paradise Farm
Andy of Forest House Tile was recommended to us by a design consultant at a tile store who had recently used him for his own backsplash project. We couldn't be happier - Andy's price was very competitive and his work and attention to detail is second to none.
