Thirty-nine years, fifteen permits, and exactly one written review. Fox Construction is a small Concord shop that says it has been renovating, remodeling and building custom homes since 1987, and the thing it puts front and centre is finish work — the trim and detail you notice a year after the crew leaves. Don Fox is the name on it. He is the sole contact on the company's own site, and the one customer who has written anything named him directly: in a March 2024 Google review, a homeowner described Fox Construction remodeling their kitchen and singled out Don's communication as open and transparent from start to finish. BuildZoom lists both Alan Fox and Donald Fox Jr. as owners. The permit trail fills in what the reviews don't. Fifteen permitted projects, weighted toward additions and kitchen and bathroom remodels across Arlington, Waltham, Framingham, Melrose and Weston. BuildZoom scores the firm 103 and puts that in the top 10% of Massachusetts contractors. Two things a Nahant homeowner should weigh. First, the stated territory is the other side of Boston — the company's own site names Lexington, Newton, Concord, Bedford and Belmont. It has worked out here: a November 2011 permit at 339 Nahant Rd to remove, reframe, strip and reroof a garage roof, gutters and door, valued at $27,000. But that was fifteen years ago, and it is the exception rather than the pattern. Second, almost nothing has been written down. Google shows 5.0 across three ratings, BuildZoom carries no reviews at all, so there is little to weigh in either direction. On licensing, BuildZoom lists Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration #180972 and says it found that active in April 2026, alongside an older number, #143999, which it marks inactive. Those are BuildZoom's own records rather than a registry check. Worth a call if you want an owner-run builder for a kitchen, a bath or an addition and you care about finish detail. If you are out in Nahant, ask up front whether they still travel this far, and ask for references from the past two years.
