A July 2026 Google reviewer described having existing hardwood refinished and kitchen tile replaced with new hardwood by Gabe's Hardwood Floors. The customer said the new section blended into the old flooring and praised punctuality and cleanliness. Based in Rutland, the business says Michael P. Gabaree founded and operates it. Its website describes a fully insured Worcester County flooring contractor with 40 years in business, offering hardwood installation, refinishing, staining and luxury vinyl plank flooring, alongside bathroom remodeling and water-damage restoration. In a March 2025 review, a customer said Michael and his team installed hardwood floors in less time than estimated, cleaned up afterward and acted professionally. That reviewer planned to bring them back for an upstairs hallway and TV room. A September 2025 reviewer praised the finished work and said the price was the best they had obtained. In October 2025, another reviewer described dealing with Mike and praised his honesty, craftsmanship and integrity throughout their project. Two June 2023 reviews described chipped flooring and hostile responses when correction was requested. The June 6 reviewer described an LVP installation in a kitchen and family room: after the first day, they found three chips and a board that was not fully locked in. They said the worker yelled when notified, suggested covering chipped spots with rugs and furniture, and blamed the poorly installed board on a manufacturing defect. After one chipped board was replaced, they found a chipped and split board near the main entrance. The reviewer said the floor remained unfinished for five days and that a return visit corrected only one of many mistakes. They also reported boards butted against walls and cabinets, flexible transitions that snapped underfoot, unlevel appliances, missing quarter round and exposed green underlay by the front door. The June 5 reviewer separately described chipped prefinished flooring, boards that were not flush and a rude, belligerent response toward their 80-year-old mother when repairs were requested. Google shows a 3.8-star average from nine ratings. BBB gives the Rutland business an A+ grade without accreditation and reports 46 years in business, compared with the website's self-reported 40 years.
Had existing hardwoods refinished. We also had kitchen tiles replaced with new hardwood. It came out great, new part blended in fantastic. On time, clean, no problem.
In my line of work I deal with contractors and craftsman of different types. Some just ok, some terrible and sometimes I am lucky enough to work with someone who really cares about the quality of their work and the reputation it garners. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Mike. An honest guy and a fantastic craftsman who's integrity shone through our entire project.
He did a great job! It is as beautiful as a work of art! The price was by far the best we got, the service was also the best we could have asked for!
Great job! Michael and his team did a GREAT job installing our hardwood floors. They did the job in less time than they estimated, cleaned up after themselves and were highly professional. I would highly recommend this company. We will be bringing them back to do an upstairs hallway and also a TV room area.
We were so excited to get our new LVP floor in our kitchen/family room! Day 1, Gabe’s finishes for the day, we come home to find 3 chips and a board not fully locked in. We notified Gabe’s the next morning and our excitement turned to dread. He yelled at us, told us to put rugs and furniture over the chipped spots, said the poorly installed board was a manufactured defect. He replaced one of the chipped boards (directly in front of the stove). Again we come home to a chipped and split board in front of our main entrance. It was sharp and just waiting for a barefoot to lodge itself into. Again Gabe was angry, blaming everyone but himself; the product, the house, the customer! He left us with an unfinished floor for 5 days. Came back with the same attitude and only fixed one of the many mistakes. He butted the boards against walls and cabinets, I asked him to leave a space as recommended by the manufacturer, he didn’t repair this. All transitions are flexible and snap if you step on them. The refrigerator and stove are not level. He didn’t install the quarter round. He left green underlay showing under the front door. I would only recommend Gabes Hardwood if you’d like many mistakes and to be disrespected and mistreated in your own home.
