Fifty-one pulled permits, one written review. That gap is the first thing to know about Gary M Caponigro, a residential remodeler whose BuildZoom address is in Lowell but whose permit history sits almost entirely on the North Shore, with six jobs in Marblehead alone. The work he files for is whole-room and whole-house: kitchens, bathrooms, basements, full-home remodels and additions. The one customer who wrote about him, back in October 2018, hired him for structural repairs — replacing a sill plate, kick plate and joists eaten by termites so a flooring job could go ahead — and called him trustworthy and careful about the result. It is a specific, credible account. It is also eight years old and the only one on file, which is why the rating here stays cautious rather than following the 5.0 star figure a single review produced. The licensing needs a direct question before you sign anything. A Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration held in his own name, number 119028, is expired on the state register. BuildZoom separately lists three other home improvement contractor numbers for him as active, along with two construction supervisor licences — those are the directory's entries and were not confirmed with the state here. Worth a call if you want an experienced permit-pulling remodeler for a North Shore kitchen, bath or addition, and you are prepared to do your own checking. Ask which home improvement contractor registration number is current, verify it yourself at the state's Consumer Affairs register, and ask for two or three references from the past year — the written trail stops in 2018.

Structural Repairs — I highly recommend Gary as a contractor. We needed to replace a sill plate and kick plate and joists that had been damaged by termites in order to finish a flooring project. Gary was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He did an excellent job and it was obvious that he cared a great deal about the quality of work and the end result for my home and my family. Very trustworthy.
