Gault Family Companies calls itself the oldest business in Westport, Connecticut, on its own website, saying it began as a hauling business with a single horse and wagon. A 2024 customer said Gault installed a new A/C system and a set of smart thermostats in one day, that everything had worked since, and wrote of being a Gault customer for over 40 years. A 2026 customer said a technician on an annual check-up saw a little oil stain on the floor, claimed the oil tank had a leak and asked them to replace it. That 2026 customer said a third-party opinion did not think it was a leak, and that Gault then refused to deliver heating oil to them. A 2025 customer said an HVAC service visit required three months' notice to schedule, and the tech arrived three hours after the two-hour window. The same 2025 customer said the next visit was missed by 24 hours, and that the person who answered the phone asked them to leave the house open so the tech could come and go. A 2023 customer said a clerk gave helpful advice and a sample paver. A westfaironline.com headline called it a Westport energy firm that rebranded as Gault Family Companies. A bpnews.com headline announced the sale of Rural Fuels to Gault Family Companies. On Google, the company holds 3.3 stars from 6 ratings.

Too bad I could not give a zero star. They sent a technician to do annual check-up. This guy saw a little oil stain on the floor and claimed the oil tank has leak and requested us to replace it, which would cost $5000+. We asked for a 3rd party opinion, which did not think it is leak. But Gault refuses to deliver heating oil now. I could not believe a company could be rotten to the core like this.
Sorry to report, the Gault company has lost its way! Find another option. Here is why.... My last HVAC service visit required a 3 month notice to schedule. The tech arrived that day 3 hours AFTER the 2 hour window provided. I mentioned to them how disruptive this was to stay home from work and work my call schedule around it, only to have the window move so significantly. They did not care. My next visit was scheduled for yesterday between 12-2. They never came. Got a text this morning, they were arriving shortly (i.e, 9:00am). I called to confirm what shortly meant, and was told, that was a mistake, they were going to arrive between 12-2 today (just 24 hours later than my original appointment). I told the Gault person who answered that I needed to leave for work and was unable to lose anymore time. She requested I leave the door open to the house so the tech could come and go as they pleased to do the service. She explained the problem is that if I did not do that, the schedule was backed up for 3 more months and I would not have anyone look at my heating system (3 units) until December or january. When I expressed incredulity over a) how this was made to be my problem when they missed the appointment by 24 hours, and b) the idea of me leaving the house open, I was told my sarcasm was unappreciated and she was just trying to "help". Ahhhhhhhh.... if that's your idea of Customer service, then this company is for you!
I had a new A/C system installed and a new set of smart thermostats by Gault last week. It was a pretty big job but they completed it in one day. The technicians could not have been more pleasant or professional. And everything has worked flawlessly since. I've been a Gault customer for over 40 years and have never been disappointed.
