Gerrior Masonry & Landscape Construction is a Woburn, Massachusetts crew built around hardscape work — retaining walls, patios, walkways, and chimney rebuilds — the kind of project that reshapes a yard rather than patches it. The company says it has been family-run since 1990 and incorporated in 2000, with Joseph Gerrior overseeing projects personally and Christine Groves running the office; its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. The track record runs deep and consistent: 35 reviews on Google and the Better Business Bureau span 2021 through 2026, and the same specifics recur — chimneys rebuilt after tree damage or decades of wear, granite steps and stone patios, bulkheads and foundation repointing, and retaining walls built to match sloped or difficult lots. One customer of eight years credits the crew with matching a botched paver walkway left by a previous landscaper; another describes collecting six competing quotes before picking Gerrior anyway. The company also lists drainage, basement waterproofing and commercial snow removal among its work, and its BBB profile carries an A+ grade with accreditation dating to 2003. Not every recent job has gone as smoothly. A 2026 review describes a full yard renovation — over $100,000, including a new lawn — where the grass failed within weeks, leaving large dead patches across the property; another 2026 review on a large, higher-priced project cited a lack of onsite supervision during the work. Both are worth raising directly before signing a big contract: who supervises day to day, and what's covered if new sod or plantings don't establish. For the walls, patios, steps and chimney work that fill most of its history, the volume and specificity of the praise make a strong case. On a large landscaping renovation, it's worth confirming supervision and any planting warranty up front.
We hired Gerrior Masonry for a complete yard renovation, over $100,000 for the full project including new lawn installation. Within weeks of completion, the lawn was failing across the entire yard. Large dead and bare patches everywhere, as shown in the photos. The lawn is watered by a professionally installed irrigation system that runs on schedule and works perfectly, so this is not a watering issue. This is a problem with the installation itself. When we asked Gerrior to correct their work, they refused to do it under warranty and said they would only fix it if we paid again for time and materials. We paid six figures for a lawn that died in weeks, and the company will not stand behind its own work. As of today, nothing has been repaired. I will update this review if Gerrior makes this right.
Gerrior did a fantastic job on our new retaining wall for our "widen the driveway" project. They showed up early, worked hard all day, and got the job done within the day. Very impressive! The wall looks great, even better than we imagined. I want to especially call out how nice these guys were - Arton, Scott and Meyer - super professional and friendly. Nice job on hiring, Gerrior! I would highly recommend you work with these guys!
I have been a customer of Gerrior Masonry and Landscape for about 8 years. They have always been professional and reasonably priced. Our first experience was for them to fix a retaining wall and paver walkway botched by 2 other landscapers. They did an fantastic job matching the current pavers and stonework used. Most importantly, the area was finally functional and beautiful. This year we took on a large renovation project. Our outside work included a large stone wall (jointless with connecticut fieldstone hand cut), a main walkway to the home, replanting garden beds, window well retaining wall made of cobbles and granite, granite mailbox post, plus fixing our sprinkler system. The whole team was top notch in their professional skills, communication was timely and often with the owner of the company as Joe is heavily involved in every project. We have had numerous challenging experiences with contractors during this renovation project, but Gerrior Masonry was incredible every step of the way. I will never let another company do work outside our home except his team! Thank you to your amazing crew for all that you did to help our family. We are lifetime customers, and would recommend your company to anyone who wants the best team in the area and the most respectful of your home and family. More pictures to come as the landscape design matures.
Well it has been nearly two years since we had our backyard transformed by Joe and his team, and let me tell you, the results have been stunning. I had received approximately six quotes for our design of a retaining wall, extension of a patio, hand built and cut fireplace, installation of lighting, French drains as well as fill and grading of the entire yard. Two years later and we couldn't be more happy with the craftsmanship and work from Joe and his team of professionals. Joe went with me to hand select the materials, boarders, and stone colors. We opted for lighting under the capstones in the wall as well, which is controlled by an app. He was communicative, and responsive, handed any issues that came up with existing lines and appropriately and effectively solved the problems as they encountered them. I would absolutely hire Joe and his team again. We now have a stunning backyard, which not only creates a beautiful environment, though, also addresses our flooding issues we encountered with our new home. Thank you Joe!
After vetting several companies, we chose Gerrier because their quoting process was seamless and we moved forward with them despite them being the most expensive bid. Unfortunately, the execution was the opposite of the price tag. The project suffered from a lack of onsite supervision, with the crew frequently admitting they were unsure of how to proceed. While the final result is visually appealing, the journey was marred by poor management and a disappointing lack of respect for us as clients. For a premium price, we expected a premium experience; we didn't get it. Update: This project was part of a multiphase, two-year renovation involving roughly 10 contractors, which wrapped up at the end of 2025. Gerrior Masonry worked on the first phase only. We chose to hold off on sharing feedback for each contractor until all the work was complete. Over the course of our project with Gerrior, we raised concerns both verbally and in writing. They were responsive and eventually took the steps needed to ensure the work was completed properly.
