Gil Cartier Handyman, run by Gilbert P. Cartier, is a family handyman and general contracting business based in Amesbury, Massachusetts, with 46 years in business. He is background-checked and has held Top Pro status on Thumbtack since 2017. Across platforms, the ratings are exceptionally strong: Thumbtack shows 4.9 stars from 89 reviews (97% five-star), while HomeAdvisor and Angi each show 5.0 stars. The written reviews, spanning 2005 through 2026, describe work far broader than typical small handyman jobs. In a 2022 review, a client described hiring Gil for a complete gut renovation of a house bought 'as is' in Hampton, New Hampshire — after his team first cleared out the property, he handled a new roof, siding, plumbing, electrical, heating, kitchen, and bathroom, praised as outstanding craftsmanship. More recent reviews describe a steady stream of smaller, well-executed jobs. In a 2026 review, a client with mobility issues said Gil listened to their goals, developed a plan, and completed the project well within expectations. Another 2026 review said he repaired shutters and went beyond the job by touching up paint on blemishes. In a 2025 review, a client called him meticulous while installing a kitchen sink and hooking up a dishwasher. A 2024 review described a bulkhead replacement finished over two days, exactly as quoted. Other reviews from 2024 and 2021 describe deck board replacement, baseboard and electrical fixture installation, and combined plumbing, electrical, and carpentry punch lists, with clients repeatedly praising prompt responses, courtesy texts before arrival, and top-notch quality. Older accounts from 2005 and 2006 describe a kitchen remodel and general contracting work, both praised for craftsmanship and pride taken in the work — a track record of consistency that now spans two decades of written reviews. For a homeowner in the Amesbury/Seabrook border area with anything from a small repair to a full home renovation, this is a long-established, deeply and consistently well-reviewed contractor — worth reaching out directly given the scale of work he's handled before.

A basketball pole and backboard was installed. Cement had to be poured to support the pole.
Gil listened to my goals and developed a plan to address several issues that I was unable to work on due to mobility issues. He stayed with the plan, arrived at my home when he said he would, worked diligently and completed the project well within my expectations.
Gil did a fantastic job repairing shutters in fact, he went above and beyond the call of duty by using touch up paint for the blemishes.
Gil was excellent! Came out to my house to assess the work that needed to be done. When we set a date to have it done, he arrived promptly and did a great job. I would hire Gil again.
