We had the pleasure of working with Chris for two recent home inspections, and he exceeded every expectation. He is exceptionally professional, thorough, and highly knowledgeable. Chris takes the time to walk through everything in detail, explaining his findings clearly and answering every question with patience. He made what can be a stressful process feel manageable and gave us a level of comfort and trust that’s truly invaluable when making such an important investment. We’re incredibly grateful for his guidance and would highly recommend Gold Shield Inspection Services to anyone looking for a top-tier home inspector in the Greenwich area.
We recently used Gold Shield for a full home inspection and I can’t recommend Chris highly enough. The inspection included a comprehensive home report covering the main house and all accessory buildings, along with a separate WDI (termite/pest) inspection. From the very first phone call, I knew Chris took his work seriously. We spent nearly an hour on the phone that first call, and I never felt like I was asking too many questions. He was very interested in helping out from the beginning and getting off to a good start. In person, he was easygoing but very focused. I was very stressed leading up to inspection day, but within a few minutes of meeting Chris I realized that he was there to take the stress and put it completely on his shoulders. Chris is someone you’re comfortable being around for hours as he takes you along with him for most if not all of the inspection. The inspection lasted about five hours and his knowledge across HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, structure, crawlspaces, property grading, well and water, fireplaces, and more was impressive. He even brought a Standard Oil representative to review the heating and fuel systems, which was well beyond what I expected. We received a separate report from them as well which was very thorough and appreciated. What stood out most was his willingness to inspect every space, no matter how difficult. A pest inspector on site the same day came back literally gasping for air while describing a severe rodent infestation in the attic of a large finished accessory building, saying it was the worst squirrel and wildlife intrusion conditions he had ever seen. When it was Chris’s turn to inspect later in the day, he didn’t hesitate to climb up and inspect it himself, where he also documented historical fire damage to trusses and roof sheathing. He then went down into a tight 4.5 ft crawlspace beneath that same building to fully assess the conditions down there. There was a trap door inside the building, that just dropped down into the crawlspace. It looked like he was going to just jump down in there, but I found him a step ladder. When I asked him if he was really going to go down there, he said “Oh absolutely. I have to.” That level of commitment spoke volumes to me in that moment. Throughout the inspection, Chris remained objective and factual, clearly documenting major issues such as wildlife contamination, mold staining from moisture exposure, prior fire damage, and pointing out the lack of sub-floor over a large crawlspace area. From my understanding, he runs a one-man operation, which I actually found to be a positive. You know exactly who is coming to the property, and he takes full ownership of the inspection from start to finish. His role was clearly to observe and document objectively rather than editorialize in the report. He never dramatized anything or pushed opinions. He just presented clear findings so we could make informed decisions. His main concern was the amount of deferred maintenance that would likely hit all at once, which proved to be very accurate. Everything that could be deferred, had already been deferred for many years. Some systems as much as 10 years past life expectancy. In the end, his thoroughness saved us from a purchase involving significant uncapped remediation risk, the potential material impairment of a large finished accessory building, and long-term resale stigma and disclosure obligations had we attempted to remediate. Even when repaired, issues like mold and fire damage don’t simply go away. They carry lasting disclosure implications. Even in brutal winter conditions with deep snow, Chris arrived early and moved effortlessly around the property. He walked the property with me like it was Springtime. Just an all out effort despite the conditions. If you’re looking for an inspector who is hands-on, pretty much fearless about tough spaces, and committed to honest and factual documentation, I would highly recommend Chris and Gold Shield. We will be using him again in the future without hesitation.
Chris was fantastic during my home inspection. Extremely knowledgeable and even more thorough without it being overwhelming or discouraging. Couldn't recommend Gold Shield enough
We worked with Gold Shield for our home inspection before we bought our house and they were great. Chris went above and beyond explaining every detail of the house and their report included everything as discussed. He also helped us with some questions after and was very responsive. We definitely recommend them!
I recommend Gold Shield to everybody who asks how our inspection went. He was knowledgeable, informative, exhaustive in how inspection, and I always felt like I was part of the process. It was such a relief having somebody who really cares about getting you all the info you need to make such a big decision. I cannot recommend Chris enough.
