Food-growing gardens are Green City Growers' focus. The Somerville company says it designs, installs and maintains urban farms and gardens, alongside educational and wellness programs. It says it started in 2008 with residential and restaurant gardens and grew to more than 200 garden sites around greater Boston. The company describes an employee ownership structure: Christopher Grallert became president and co-owner in 2020, and an employee stock ownership plan launched in 2021. It also identifies itself as a Certified B Corp. Its BBB profile gives it an A+ grade and says it is not accredited. Google lists a 4.4-star average from 22 ratings. In a September 2025 review, a vendor described working with Chris and the team as professional and collaborative, and said they valued the partnership. A visitor writing in August 2025 praised the knowledgeable, accommodating team after a group tour of the headquarters and learning about its work in schools and other greater Boston spaces. These were a vendor's and a visitor's experiences. There is criticism too. A July 2023 Google reviewer described management as unprofessional and called Chris arrogant and disrespectful. A reviewer writing in August 2022 said there was not much information for homeowners.
