Gregory Lombardi Design is a Cambridge landscape architecture practice built around one name, with fourteen people behind it and a portfolio that runs from Boston roof terraces to Cape Cod compounds. BBB grades it A+ while noting it is not BBB accredited, and records the firm as established in 1991 with a second identity, Parterre Gardening Service, for garden care. The design work is what draws praise. A homeowner writing in April 2018 said the team's ideas pulled the whole project together and that the property drew compliments from everyone who saw it. An interior design firm, back in April 2013, described several large Greater Boston properties done together and kept the practice on its own referral list. The counterweight is a single account, and it is a serious one. In November 2017 a client wrote that the project ran behind schedule and was, in their words, "way overpriced," that the relationship reached lawyers and potential arbitration, and that they paid the bills in the end specifically so they could write the warning. Three reviews in total, and that is one of them. Credentials sit with the principal rather than the company: BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts landscape architect licence, number 1061, in Gregory D Lombardi's own name, with a last recorded expiry of January 2026. That is the directory's record and not a registry check, so confirm the current standing with the state board before contracting. The written record is both small and dated — nothing published since 2018 — so treat what follows as history, not a report on the practice today. A fit for a designed, ambitious garden or terrace where drawings and detail matter more than a low bid, particularly on the sort of urban roof deck and stonework the galleries show. Before signing, get the fee basis and the schedule written into the contract with milestones, and ask directly how change orders are priced.
Greg and his team were truly wonderful to work with. Their creative ideas for the landscape brought the whole project together and far surpassed our expectations. We have received so many compliments from our family and friends and are beyond thrilled with how gorgeous our property has become!
If I could, I would give this company zero stars. They were behind schedule, way overpriced, and unprofessional. We ended up with lawyers and potential arbitration but ultimately decided to just pay their bills so that we could warn others about them. I wish I had read this kind of review before I hired them.
I have had the pleasure of working with Greg Lombardi and his team on several large scale properties in the Greater Boston area. Greg's design is thoughtful, engaging and forward thinking, bringing tremendous value and curb appeal to properties old and new. The combination of Greg's creative talent, accessable and professional manner is sought after by client and professionals in the design community. Greg Lombardi Design is always on SLC Interiors, Inc. client referral list!
