Happy Painters

A 620-square-foot condo — walls, trim and ceilings — painted in two and a half days: that is the kind of job Happy Painters was being hired for when a Houzz customer wrote it up in March 2019. The company works out of Malden, Houzz lists it under Brighton, and Noe Gonzalez is named as its owner. Its own site says it has been painting interiors since 2017, and names Boston, Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Melrose, Brookline, Watertown and Newton among the towns it covers. One name keeps coming back across the seventeen customer accounts: Noe. Six of those customers, writing in 2018 and 2019, dealt with him directly — one wrote in May 2018 that he answered a quote request within 24 hours and met them the same week. Two hired the crew again: a September 2018 customer went from a new 500-foot family room with 19 windows to the exterior trim of the house. The work described runs wider than flat walls. A March 2019 customer had a kitchen and a bathroom done by Noe, Cesar and Miguel; a June 2018 homeowner brought them a composite ceiling stained by raccoons in the attic; and in December 2019 the crew came out on a weekend to clear a list of painting, staining and some carpentry. Prices drew the same word repeatedly in 2018 — affordable, reasonable, competitive. One complaint is worth a minute. In a September 2018 Angi review, a homeowner who called the work on time and nice found paint spots on the floor and paint left on the bathroom counter and sink, where brushes had been cleaned. A separate September 2018 review says a front door needed extra details and the painters returned to complete the work. BuildZoom lists the company's Massachusetts painter license, #193788, as inactive or expired. Those written accounts run from January 2018 to December 2019 — Houzz shows a 5.0 from six ratings and Angi a 4.9 from 11, but the detail behind those numbers is seven and eight years old, so treat it as history rather than as this year's crew. For interior painting — condos, move-outs, kitchens and baths, ceilings and trim — there is a long run of customers describing neat, quick jobs at prices they liked. Before booking, ask where that painter license stands now, get the cleanup and surface protection agreed in writing, and ask who will be on site.
