Verified record
There are two very different records on this company, and a homeowner should see both. On the platforms, Heritage Home Service carries 4.8 stars from 8,522 Google ratings and 4.9 from 4,517 on Best Pick Reports, and the service write-ups are specific and warm: a technician replacing an anti-siphon valve under warranty at no charge this August, another confirming a hot-water problem was electrical rather than the boiler, an AC emergency assessed and solved with a year's guarantee on the work. On Reddit, the same name draws one of the most concentrated warning patterns in this directory, and it is about money rather than workmanship. Commenters in New Hampshire threads this spring reported being quoted $26,000 to replace a wall-hung combi boiler that a second opinion said was fine, about $11,000 for a furnace, and $7,500 for a water heater after a young homeowner's water stopped. In a 2026 thread collecting like-for-like 40-gallon water-heater quotes, Heritage's onsite number was the highest of six at $3,300 against $2,375 at the low end. Others described being given a monthly payment before a total price, seeing unrelated items appear on a quote, and roughly $1,200 being added to a financed balance after a deposit. A commenter identifying as a 20-year plumber said second opinions behind the company were "way worse than you think." Not everyone agrees — one commenter said they were in the minority with decent results, and a 2024 Nashua thread had a household using them for seasonal furnace and AC maintenance. Its New Hampshire plumbing credentials are in order: the state registry shows the company's plumbing business licence MBE0002490 active, alongside an active individual plumber licence, number 4198, held by Richard L Vogel for the business. The pattern holds in the low-star reviews too. A 2025 customer wrote that a service plan could not be added without booking another service a week after their system had already been cleaned, and that calls went unreturned; a 2021 reviewer called the bill a financial nightmare after a plumber arrived fast during a two-week search. Even satisfied customers flag it — one in 2026 declined an $1,100 starting price for diagnosis and minor electrical repair, paid the $89 arrival fee and sent the technician away, praising him on the way out. Call them when speed matters — the same-day and emergency stories are consistent and the technicians who show up are well reviewed. Then treat the quote as a starting point, not a verdict: ask for the total price in dollars rather than a monthly payment, get a line-item scope, and price at least one smaller local shop against it before signing anything, particularly on a boiler, furnace or water-heater replacement.
“Stay away from Heritage!”
“As a 20 year plumber and service tech I’ve gone behind heritage for second opinions and it’s way worse than you think.”
“Heritage is trash also avoid Key HVAC they're shady af been sued a number of times. I'd stay away from East Coast HVAC too last I heard they had some real shady characters working for them. Abbot HVAC in Exeter is a good small local company that does good work for reasonable ”
“Heritage tried to upsell a new boiler for $26k, but a 2nd opinion said ours is fine.”
“Heritage and Joyce both tried to sell me a new furnace when the current one was doing just fine.”
I can’t speak highly enough of Heritage!! So happy with our new system and the employees were all incredibly professional and thorough.
Review for Michael W. — Heritage Home Service (Plumbing) on August 22, 2026. We had an exceptional experience with Michael W. from Heritage Home Service this morning. After a very unpleasant blockage and gross overflow into our unfinished basement yesterday, Michael came out to assess the situation, confirm that it had cleared itself, and make sure there didn’t appear to be an underlying problem we were missing. He was beyond friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. He took the time to understand what had happened, and then he thoroughly tested the system, confirmed that our toilets were flushing properly, water was running and even checked our septic tank, which had just been pumped two days ago, to make sure there was nothing evident going wrong at the end of the line. He explained everything clearly and made sure we understood what he was seeing and why. What I appreciated most was how genuinely consultative Michael was. He pointed out a likely near-future issue we haven’t proactively addressed yet: our aging water heater. There was absolutely no pressure or sales pitch—just thoughtful, appropriate guidance from someone who clearly knows his trade and wants to help a homeowner avoid the next emergency. I know some people aren’t fond of the fact that Heritage often lets customers know about other home services that may need attention while they’re already onsite. As longtime Heritage customers of more than 25 years, I can honestly say there have been times we’ve moved forward based on recommendations and plenty of times we’ve decided to hold off. It often comes down to how the information is presented, and Michael handled it exactly right: sincerely, respectfully, and with our best interests (and wallet) in mind. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for Michael W.! He provided exactly the kind of service experience you hope for when you have a stressful plumbing problem—and reminded us why we’ve continued to be satisfied Heritage customers for more than two decades. Thank you, Michael! Also props to both the original customer service rep, a gentleman, who I frantically called on Friday when the leak was underway, as well as the female I spoke to on Saturday morning that noted for Michael that he should come straight to the basement from the back yard to avoid my crazy goldendoodles! Superior, friendly service from start to finish!
Very good service! I called for service and within an hour Brendan was at my door step! Even though I had a window between 12-4! I would use them again.
