High Efficiency is a Sandwich-based HVAC and plumbing contractor that works across Cape Cod, the Islands and the South Shore. It says it was founded in 2010 by Craig Bishop, and it is one of the larger outfits on the Cape — big enough to run multi-day installs with its own crews and its own Mass Save energy division, which is why it turns up so often on heat pump and mini-split jobs. The technicians are the strongest part of this record, and it is not close. Reviewers name them individually — Patrick, Sebastian, Aaron, Joshua, Eric, Ryan — and describe careful, well-explained work: boot covers to keep sand off the carpet, a condenser levelled on blocks unasked, an attic heat supply run through a narrow cathedral ceiling. A reviewer who worked in HVAC for thirty years called a multi-zone duct, furnace, heat pump and mini-split renovation top-notch work in a July 2025 review. They are genuinely quick in a crisis. In a March 2026 review a homeowner with an unsafe old hot water tank called late on a Monday and had a new code-compliant system by Wednesday afternoon; another described a system condemned mid-service call, with sales sent out the same visit and the install expedited. The complaints are just as consistent, and they are about the office rather than the trade. Reviewers describe hard-to-make appointments, an appointment window nobody showed up for, and installers given wrong information by the office. In an August 2026 review a customer said a part took a full month to order, leaving them most of the summer without working AC despite repeated follow-up calls, and a May 2026 reviewer alleged overpricing, poor work and damage to their house. Pricing is the other recurring theme. A 2023 reviewer itemised $250 an hour plus a $50 zone charge for a two-mile trip, and $575 for a twenty-minute on-call visit; a 2024 reviewer said a boiler quote came in 40% above another for identical scope and equipment. Others say the opposite — a 2023 reviewer found their mini-split quote the most honest of three and the only one to flag a rebate they qualified for. What to do before booking: get the quote in writing with the trip and zone charges spelled out, compare it against one other bid, and confirm parts lead times and who will chase them. Several reviewers suggest confirming scope directly with the crew in your home rather than through the office. Google shows 4.7 stars from 318 ratings, the Better Business Bureau grades the business A+, and its Massachusetts HVAC licence is registry-verified active.
“High Efficiency in Sandwich. They do a annual cleaning also”
Took a full month for a part to be ordered to complete our repair. Spent most of the summer without working AC in our home. Called multiple times to follow up with minimal acknowledgement.
After spending $20,000 on a new heating and hot water system, I have been treated very badly by this company. They are not a local company with owners and managers on site. I spent $1000 with this company who said they could fix my gas fireplace. After 3 attempts and many parts they have decided they don't know how to fix it. They charged me each time they came out with additional parts. I can only hope my heat and hot water system works. I do not recommend this company. The company response seems to have a misguided view of the sequence of events. When coming to my house to repair the 25 year old unit they should have told me it is time to replace it. Instead they replaced many parts and left my house without it operational. They seem to think I did something to it after they left. However, in the heat of the summer I did not notice that they never lit the pilot. The pilot does not light and I want a refund.
Making the appointment was complicated and frustrating. Felt like the staff was not communicating with each other. The actual service was excellent. Efficient, clean, and well-done. Everything was clearly explained. Such a huge difference from first impressions made by office staff.
Very, very poor service- their name does not fit. No one knows what is going on and just tries to sell you something.
Feel very lucky to have found High Efficiency after being burned by another contractor. My business was in need of A/C urgently and not only were they prompt, but I was able to get much better equipment and paid almost half the price of other quotes, due to their knowledge of rebates. I was skeptical at first because no other estimate that I had received from several companies had offered one. Not only was the rebate up front on the price but I did not have to do any of the paperwork. When the job was done I couldn’t have been happier with their workmanship.
