Homestead Comfort

Homestead Comfort is the Ellington company that fills the oil tank, then sends someone back to fix the boiler, the AC, the kitchen drain or the well pump. Heating oil and propane delivery sit alongside HVAC installs and service, plumbing, insulation and energy work, and the company says it has been at it for 37 years, serving towns across Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties from its West Road base. Google is where most of its customers talk: 1,356 ratings averaging 4.8, with a steady stream of new reviews every week. What they describe is mostly the service visit — a technician named by first name who arrives on time and walks through what he found. One September customer had Ed swap a leaky washing machine valve and advise replacing both faucets given their age; another said the company texted a confirmation with a photo of the technician before he arrived and was upfront about pricing. In July, a family with no well water watched Tristan and Zach find the original 1987 pump had failed, trench about 50 feet out to the well head with a backhoe, and stay until 9:40 PM to get the water running that day, with Zach back the next morning to grade the dirt. Oil customers show up too. A September reviewer called the fuel delivery fine but wished the invoice had been left in the mailbox or emailed, and nearly missed the payment. Another said the oil price runs slightly higher than other companies, but the customer service is why they stay. On Reddit, a Connecticut commenter who had Homestead in Ellington service a gas furnace and AC called them "very thorough but expensive." Price is the complaint that keeps coming back. In September, one couple wrote that they were charged $829.01 to service a system Homestead had installed the year before, that a technician broke a part and left oil leaking in their basement overnight, and that their billing emails went unanswered. In December 2025, a customer said a toilet wax-seal repair quoted at about $300 arrived as an invoice over $600, plus a $99 booking fee. A June customer thought $179 for under an hour of maintenance was steep. A 2024 boiler replacement took eight visits to work properly, according to that homeowner, with the wrong pump installed along the way. Scheduling is the other sore spot: a nine-year customer said the office has more than once moved a service appointment booked a year ahead. Its BBB page shows an A+ grade and accreditation.
