Horticultural DNA has been landscaping the mid-Cape since 2008, when Army veteran Steven Fernandes started the company with $400 and eight years of engineer-corps experience behind him. It's grown into a six-employee, BBB-accredited operation (A+ grade since 2016) covering everything from lawn care and irrigation to hardscape and snow removal across fifteen Cape towns. The written record backs up the range: a 2023 review described a flagstone walkway install plus a full-yard hardscape and hydroseed job as 'impeccable,' with 'terrific' communication and a reasonable price; a January 2026 review credited the crew with keeping snow-removal operations running smoothly through the region's worst storm in a decade; and several reviewers describe years-long relationships, including one out-of-state owner who has had HDNA manage yard work, irrigation and small construction projects on their Cape property in their absence since 2022. Crew members — Steve, Andrew, Sean, Eddie — get named and praised individually across different years, which points to a team effort rather than one standout hire. Two accounts complicate that picture. In a 2024 review, a neighboring property owner described HDNA damaging their fence during a job next door, denying responsibility, and only paying after being taken to court and found liable. And in a November 2025 review, a customer described being charged for work that caused damage, refused a fix, and met with an angry, threatening response from the owner when they pushed back. Both are serious enough, and specific enough, to weigh heavily — even though the six months of reviews since have been clean, and the broader written record from 2021 on is overwhelmingly positive about the actual landscaping and hardscape work. For routine lawn care, irrigation, hardscape or snow removal, the volume of specific, repeat-customer praise here is real. Given the fence dispute, it's worth asking directly how HDNA handles property damage claims before work starts near a shared property line.
