The irrigation reviews here get oddly specific: a line rerouted around a septic tank cover, a system opened early for the season, drip tubing run to a bed of new bushes. Horticultural DNA works out of Hyannis and covers most of Cape Cod — Bourne and Sandwich west, Orleans and Provincetown east — doing landscape design and planting, masonry and hardscapes, lawn care, property maintenance and winter snow removal. The company says owner Steven Fernandes started it in 2008 with $400 of his own money, after eight years as a U.S. Army engineer and a stretch managing a nursery, and its site describes the business as veteran-owned. Google carries 4.7 stars from 54 ratings, and the written record runs 2021 to 2026. What holds it together is continuity: a customer writing in May 2026 said they were in their eighth year with the company, and a 2022 review from an out-of-state owner described a Cape property kept up all summer by email and phone alone. Crew names keep surfacing — Eddie on a July 2026 design job, Andrew on a spring 2025 irrigation start-up, Sean on a 2025 landscaping project — which is the kind of detail people write only when they know who showed up. A 2023 reviewer described a flagstone walkway plus hydroseeding of the whole yard; a January 2026 customer credited the crew with keeping snow hauling moving through the biggest storm in a decade. Its BBB page is an A+, accredited since 2016. The other half of the picture is a small cluster of one-star accounts about damage. In November 2025 a customer wrote that they were charged an exorbitant amount for work that caused damage, that the company refused to fix it, and that another firm put it right for a fraction of the price. A 2024 reviewer said HDNA landscapers damaged their fence while working at the neighboring house, and that the owner did not return calls about it. An April 2025 reviewer complained that weeds were back within a week of driveway and landscaping work. Nothing in the last six months is negative — but three separate complaints about property damage and how it was handled deserve a direct question. For ongoing Cape property care — irrigation, lawn, plantings, snow — the depth of multi-year customers is the real argument in their favor. Before signing, ask how the company handles damage claims and who you call when something goes wrong on site, and get scope and price in writing.
The team under eddies direction worked extremely hard and were knowledgeable about landscape design. Our property was terribly overgrown, now even though a lot had to be removed we love the way it looks. This was our first experience with horticulture DNA we look forward to the planting phase of our project. Without reservations we would recommend anyone to entrust their landscape projects to your company. Linda and Jack Korpi
