The clearest measure of HTR is the permit trail: BuildZoom lists 45 permitted projects going back to 2006 and scores the company 97, which it puts in the 82nd percentile for Massachusetts. Written customer accounts are much scarcer — two, both posted in October 2023. Both are good ones. One customer said the job started on time, finished on time and came in within budget, that the people working in the house were pleasant, and that the company hires good people who do good work. The other, at four stars, described a personable and professional group and recommended them for a home construction project. HTR builds custom homes and does additions and remodeling — kitchens, bathrooms, basements, accessory dwelling units and exterior work — out of Bedford. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 158304, is active on the state registry in the company's name, and its Houzz profile lists an RRP lead-safe certification, which matters on any pre-1978 house. The Better Business Bureau grades it A+, while noting the business is not accredited there. Two things to sort out when you call. The ages do not line up: the BBB profile says 22 years in business, while the company's own site and its Houzz listing say more than 30. And BuildZoom shows older Newton-issued registrations now inactive, including #146060, alongside the active state one — ordinary as a builder's work moves between towns, but ask which licences apply if your town issues its own. For an addition, a basement conversion, an ADU or a custom build around Bedford, the permit history is the strongest thing to go on. Ask which projects finished in the past two years, get those addresses, and talk to the owners.
