Idea Painting Company is a Massachusetts residential and commercial painter run by owner Elias Delana, doing interior and exterior painting, cabinet refinishing, drywall repair and pressure washing; directories disagree on its home base, listing addresses in both Medfield and Stoughton, MA. Angi's own profile puts it at 17 years of experience, while the company's own About text separately says over 10. On Houzz the company holds a 4.5-star average across 17 ratings, and several reviewers name Elias directly — a 2018 review called an exterior job "problem free" with competitive pricing, and a 2020 review called the team "top notch" and said the reviewer had used them for five years. That same page also carries two detailed 1-star complaints: a November 2023 review describing bleeding primer and an unresponsive company on a kitchen-cabinet job, and a November 2020 review alleging the cabinets stained within a month and the company refused to stand behind its work. BBB separately grades the company B-, citing an unanswered complaint and no accreditation, and its own review page includes an account of a job where old shingles that were supposed to be replaced were instead just painted over. Before calling, it's worth knowing that in October 2023 the Massachusetts Attorney General announced citations against Idea Painting Company and owner Elias Delana Junior totaling $511,045.50 in restitution and civil penalties for failing to keep accurate wage records and pay employees sick time and overtime — reported the same month by a labor-watchdog outlet and referenced by a painters' union the following year. A separate federal violation-tracking database logs a $60,000 penalty against the company in July 2024 for misclassifying workers as independent contractors. Directories also report the company's Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor/Painter registration (#186616) as inactive, expired since December 2018. Given the wage-and-hour enforcement history, the lapsed registration, and a split record between the polished Houzz average and a rougher BBB and complaint picture, anyone hiring this company should confirm current licensing directly, get a detailed written scope for any prep or replacement work, and check references carefully before signing.

In a team effort, we assisted the workers in filing a wage theft complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division, and the company was issued a series of citations totaling $511,045.50 in restitution and civil penalties. Horrible customer service! We used Idea Painting, Medfield MA to paint our kitchen cabinets. After a few weeks, the original wood color started bleeding through due to faulty application of primer. They were extremely hard to communicate with and it was a challenge to get them to fix our cabinets. While fixing, they damaged our ceiling/walls from painters' tape. They refuse to repair our ceiling/walls saying that's not included in their contract but that is not the case for warranty work. We should not have to pay again to have our kitchen ceiling/walls fixed due to their faulty work!
I've known Idea's work for more than 5 years. they always do a excelent job , In a few more months I'm going to call Idea back to paint my kitchen cabinet
Elias and his team are excellent to work with. I find their professionalism and the quality of their work to be top notch. I frequently recommend Idea Painting to clients for all types of painting projects, and have been very happy with the process and the results.
I would highly recommend not using this company. Their customer service once we paid fully for the project was extremely unhelpful and rude. The cabinets have stained in less than a month and they refuse to stand by their product or offer any help. We spent a lot on this project and I want to make sure everyone is aware to not use Idea Painting.
Needed a bathroom painted and contacted Idea Painting. Elias was great to work with from beginning to end. Easy to schedule, price was competitive and problem free quality work. Planning to use again in the near future.
