Several of the people who reviewed Innovative Home Solutions had hired the company before. A May 2024 HomeAdvisor reviewer was on a third job with it — a bathroom, then a kitchen, then a dining room and den. A September 2022 reviewer was also on a third project and had referred two neighbors; a November 2023 reviewer had an addition built and came back a few years later for a deck.
Doug Merluzzo runs the Billerica company as owner and lead supervisor, and its site says he has worked more than 20 years in residential remodeling. The jobs are residential: additions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, decks, plus home repairs, maintenance and energy-saving retrofits. BBB has accredited the business, grades it A+, and puts it at 14 years since it incorporated.
Permits show the scale. BuildZoom lists 15 permitted projects, four of them in the past two years, including a $300,000 garage and master-bedroom addition in Burlington, a $250,000 three-car garage with a master suite and living room above in Dunstable, a $124,500 second-floor addition, and an $86,200 Billerica kitchen where a wall came down and was replaced with a beam.
Written accounts run from March 2013 to May 2024 — 5.0 across 19 HomeAdvisor ratings, 95% of them five-star with one 4.5, and 5.0 from two Houzz ratings posted in 2016. Most predate 2021. An October 2016 Houzz reviewer had a load-bearing wall taken out to open the kitchen and dining room of an older cape and called the crew tidy and respectful. A September 2016 deck customer said the job started when promised, finished when promised, and cost exactly the estimate. In December 2015, when crown molding arrived from the manufacturer with a problem, a homeowner said Doug came out and worked up a fix on the spot. A July 2018 reviewer described him bringing in his own kitchen design, electrical, plumbing and flooring subcontractors for a kitchen remodel.
One thing to pin down early is how much experience sits behind the name: Houzz credits Merluzzo with over 10 years in residential remodeling while advertising over 25 years combined, and the company's own site says more than 20. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #172639, is active on the state registry, and Houzz lists an Unrestricted Construction Supervisor licence held since 2008 along with a BPI Certified Building Analyst certification.
For an addition or a full kitchen or bath — the work most of these reviews describe — get the scope and schedule in writing, ask which trades will be subcontracted, and ask for the insurance certificate and a couple of recent references.
