J.A.C Excavation LLC says it installs and replaces septic systems in Alfred, Maine and throughout York County, handling installation, inspections and final grade. The towns it names are Alfred, Sanford, Waterboro, Lyman and York. A recent customer said Avery built a solid foundation and pad into their sloped yard, moved their shed onto it and created a patio under their existing deck; they said he showed up when he said he would and communicated throughout. After a neighbor's excavator tore through the back of one recent customer's property, Avery quoted on all the damages for the insurance claim and broke everything down for the adjuster. That customer said the earthwork took him nearly all day, including digging holes and burying two of the larger trees upright. A recent customer wrote that his estimate was professional and he executed the plan as they desired. A 2026 customer who needed a foundation for a steel garage said Avery led them through the entire process. A recent customer who hired the company for a gravel driveway and a retaining wall said the price was reasonable but the quality was amateur: Avery did not dig deep enough, the driveway sat far higher than desired, and they had to tell him to stagger the wall blocks. They wrote that a year later the driveway had dips and mounds, the landscape fabric was coming up, and they never heard back after contacting him.
Reasonable price but the quality is quite amateur. My project was a gravel driveway and a retaining wall. For the driveway i was very clear that I wanted the ground excavated enough for a layer of gravel for drainage and crushed stone on top. And the driveway would have a slight slope and meet up with the street nice and flush. There were a number of issues. 1. Avery did not dig deep enough for the amount of material and the driveway was far higher than desired. 2. He thought that just using 3/4" gravel was acceptable and his plan was to finish with that. 3. About halfway into building the retaining wall I noticed the blocks were all aligned from one row to the next. I'm not an expert but I know that retaining wall blocks, like bricks, cinder blocks, etc., have to be staggered. Avery tried telling me this was normal and I had to tell him to fix it. They are structurally designed to be staggered. 4. I have a water gate at the end of the driveway that I asked to be accessible. Before the project started I even dug to it and marked it with a stick. Avery just put material right over it and when the project was finished he said he couldn't figure out where it was, but if it's an issue in the future the town can find it. 5. I still had to backfill the retaining wall with a lot more soil when Avery was done. A year later and the driveway did not hold up to my expectation. There's dips, mounds, and the landscape fabric is coming up. Prior to this, there was a gravel driveway that was just smaller. It held up far better over 5+ years. I contacted Avery about it and never heard back.
We are very happy with the work Avery at JAC Excavation did for us. He build a solid foundation and pad into our sloped yard and then moved our shed onto it. In addition he created a patio under our existing deck. Avery was easy to work with. We feel he gave us a fair price, he showed up when he said he would, he communicated with us throughout the entire process and his work was meticulous. We will definitely be hiring him for future projects.
Have a neighbor that ran his large excavator through the rear of my property digging up trees, stumps, blueberry bushes etc. Everything in its path, only thing is he doesn't own the property! My insurance company wanted estimates, got three but only J.A. C Excavation (Avery) quoted on all damages where the others only quoted on part(s). Well of course the ins co wanted every thing broke down, Avery did. Then they wanted values not just replacement cost. How do you get the value of a 50 ft 30 yr old tree? How do you identify how many trees when they have all been broken up and pushed into a big pile with dirt, stumps etc? Well Avery worked with me, the ins adjuster and all their requests. Finally they were satisfied and approved the claim nearly 6 weeks later. Earthwork took Avery nearly all day which included taking two of the larger trees, digging holes and burying them upright. Now have the woodpecker tree back - the woodpeckers have their home again, dead or alive the tree is once again upright. I found Avery easy to work with, he went out of his way to make the property look as good as possible and more. I'd recommend Avery for any project you may be contemplating, I believe his knowledge goes beyond just excavation and he's not afraid to tackle the strange and unusual projects.
Avery is honest, customer oriented, and motivated to do good work. His estimate was professional and he executed the plan as we desired. Great job!
I cannot highly recommend Avery and his team enough! He came in and guided us through the whole project! We’ve never done anything like we are doing before (we needed a foundation for a steel garage) and quite frankly, we didn’t even know where to start. Avery came in and lead us through the entire process every step of the way and he has been amazing. I can honestly say I really don’t know what we would’ve done without his expertise and leadership. You can hire Avery and his team with complete confidence that things will be done right. He doesn’t cut corners and he gets you the best price possible. There’s nobody else I would want on the job! 10 out of 10 stars and above! 🤩
