J7 builders is a Waltham, Massachusetts carpentry outfit that Angi lists under framing, trim, and decorative molding installation, with 122 projects shown on its profile. Its own listing can't quite agree on how long it's been in business — one line claims 20 years of experience, a separate highlight says 14 — worth clarifying directly. What the reviews on file (three of them, all from 2019-2020) describe is careful, detail-oriented work on older homes. A 2019 review stands out: a homeowner restoring a Victorian describes the crew adding wood back into window sills that a previous owner had cut off decades earlier for aluminum siding, matching the original lines so the add-on pieces "look seamless," plus rebuilding a porch column that two prior contractors hadn't gotten right. Another 2019 review describes a broader exterior job — painting the house, adding shutters, working around downspouts, and replacing damaged deck slats — with the crew called friendly and easy to work with. A short 2020 review adds a stair-building job called excellent work. The record is thin and dated: three reviews, none newer than 2020, all on one platform. But what's there points to a carpenter comfortable with the fussy, match-the-original work that older New England homes need — worth a look for a historic-restoration or trim job, with a direct question about current availability and that tenure discrepancy before booking.

Very well-the stairs are just what we wanted. Excellent work!
This was a great experience. I am trying to bring my Victorian back, closer to its original state. I wanted to put a big push on it this year - next year I have more to do. My window sills sides were all cut off decades ago when prior owner installed aluminum siding, and these guys added wood to the sides, instead of ripping off the whole nose, so the original sills under the windows and inside the walls are still there, and the add-on pieces look seamless! Their work was great! They replaced a porch column that has been worked on twice before - finally it is done right! They fixed siding shingles and painted and I'm very happy. Importantly, they did exactly what I wanted, where I wanted, and didn't change anything up. They are kind, trustworthy, hardworking, professional and reasonably priced. They really "get it." I have more to do next year and I hope they will be available to do the work! I would recommend them to anyone and will hire in a second again.
The work went very well. All the team members were friendly, easy to work with, and understood the particular challenges associated with painting our house, adding shutters to several windows, and working around down spouts. They also helped us to power wash a large deck, replace damaged slats, and then add a neutral, oil-based, wood preservative.
