Sixteen reviews, none below five stars on Angi — and half of them written in the spring of 2019. JFB Construction is a family-run North Shore outfit working out of Lynn, and masonry is the spine of it: chimney repair, repointing and brick restoration, stone walls, concrete flatwork, patios and retaining walls, with roofing, siding, kitchen and bath remodeling and winter snow removal built out around that. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held under the company's own name. The older accounts are the detailed ones. In a May 2019 review, a customer described the crew digging up and replacing part of a garage concrete floor and building a concrete block retaining wall after demolishing the old brick one, and said they "worked fast but accurately". Another from April 2019 credits Benjamin with repairing salt damage to a concrete garage. A May 2019 reviewer praised "Den" as a contractor who actually picks up his phone. The recent work looks different. Thumbtack's 2026 reviews are about decks and porches: a July customer was quoted "an extremely reasonable price for a deck repair", said the owner answered the phone every time, and came away feeling "100% better about the safety of my deck". On Angi in May 2026, a customer had cement stairs repaired and a porch door that had stuck for three years fixed, both credited to Marvin. Back in June 2025, a reviewer noted "a little misunderstanding at first, but JFB came through". Two things to sort out before you call. Its listings don't agree on who it is — Angi carries the profile under the name Chimmney One, Thumbtack under "JFB Construction carpintry", and the website under JFB Construction and Masonry. They don't agree on tenure either: Angi claims 19 years of experience against Thumbtack's 9 years in business. Thumbtack's ratings also include an 11% two-star share. The fit here is masonry and concrete on an older North Shore house — stairs, chimneys, repointing, a patio or a retaining wall — which is where the crew's work has been described in the most detail. Spanish is spoken, per its Angi listing. Confirm which company name goes on the contract and the registration number behind it, and ask what the low-rated job was.
I had a great experience with JFB Carpentry. I was quoted an extremely reasonable price for a deck repair. The owner answered the phone every time I called with a question. The crew was professional, EXTREMELY thorough and cleaned up well at the end. I feel 100% better about the safety of my deck after their repair.
They were excellent, very attentive, organized. Great work quality, will consider for sure on any future projects
Brief but informative interaction. Obtained a fair estimate for the project.
Marvin was both very knowledgeable and and professional. Had my cement stairs repaired and I was very pleased. Marvin also fixed my porch door that had been sticking for the past 3 years. I would highly recommend Marvin for any masonry work. John Cavanaugh
I like the way Jfb responses to new customer intial inquiries to the issues that they may be having. work in progress will report back with an update. As far as I can see they're 5 stars .
