A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

JM Lydon Corp, doing business as Lydon Roofing, is a Massachusetts roofing company built around one person: Mike (Michael) Lydon, who reviewers say shows up in person, climbs the roof himself, and sticks to the number he quotes. Its listings put the business in Milton on BBB, BuildZoom and Procore, though Angi and HomeAdvisor print a Quincy address instead — worth asking about when you call. The reviews on file, though the newest dates to 2019, tell a consistent story. A 2019 review described Lydon quickly spotting multiple roof problems, climbing up to photograph them, and holding to the schedule he set. Under pressure, customers describe the same pattern: a 2015 review from a homeowner whose roof had been torn open by an animal said Lydon made a same-day repair ahead of an oncoming storm and prevented further water damage, and a 2014 review from someone whose satellite dishes had ripped up the roof said he showed up the next day, gave a fair quote on the spot, and offered advice on other work worth doing. Across Angi and HomeAdvisor the company holds a 4.8-star average from 25 ratings, and the Better Business Bureau lists it at an A+ underlying rating, though it isn't a BBB-accredited business. BuildZoom's permit database separately shows 33 permitted roofing and exterior jobs, and the company is self-listed on the Procore construction network with 15 logged projects. Licensing is attributed rather than independently confirmed here: BuildZoom lists an active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration for the company (plus one older registration it marks inactive), while Angi and HomeAdvisor separately list a Massachusetts trade license running through 2027 — a normal split between a company registration and an individual license, but worth seeing directly. The gap worth flagging is recency: nothing in the written reviews is newer than 2019, so there's no current customer account to point to. For a South Shore homeowner dealing with a leak, storm damage, or an aging shingle or slate roof, the older reviews point to a responsive, personally-run outfit — just confirm current licensing and get a written quote before booking, since the praise on file predates the last several years.
“the Downeys engaged Follett and J.M. Lydon Corp. (Lydon), both roofing contractors, to inspect the roof.”
Michael Lydon came to our residence and was able to, very quickly, identify the problems(plural) with our roof. He climbed up on the roof, took copious pictures and determined that he could take care of our problems. He was able to schedule the work and he stuck to his schedule. This man is a gentleman and does extremely good work. I would recommend him to anyone that is need of roof repair. Please hire him because I want to see him stay in business for a long time to come. Again, Mr. Lydon, we are very appreciative of your professionalism.
Mike is so lovely. He came when he said he would and did a great job replacing some roof shingles that had blown off. He was very friendly and took the time to look at other areas that I was concerned about. He also cleaned up the area before he left - something not ever contractor bothers to do, but it really makes a difference.
I was in a bind, an animal had torn up the shingles by the vent pipe of my roof right through the tar paper and down to exposed wood. And a storm was coming the next day! Even though it was a small job Mike made the timely repair ahead of the rain storm and saved me from serious water damage. The service was fast and the price was extremely reasonable. He really saved the day.
Michael Lydon is very decent, professional and hard-working. While several roofers came and just had a look from the ground, Michael brought his ladder and got on the roof to check. His charge is definitely reasonable and they have done a superb job on our roof. During the project, he always returned my calls and e-mails. If you are busy and wants to hire a reliable roofer, you definitely should hire Michael. We had a great experience with him and his compnay.
My satellite dishes got torn off my roof, and I needed the damage repaired. After having a little difficulty getting someone to show up, I e-mailed Mr. Lydon. He was here the next day, gave me a reasonable quote, and said he could get the job done right then (a relief because a storm is coming). He gave me some good advice about other work I've been needing to have done, and I'm going to have him back to do that. Highly recommended.
