Jon Palmstrom builds the kind of house an architect draws. Working out of Marshfield as JNP Contracting, he has, the company says, been building, restoring and renovating homes across Massachusetts since 1991, with historical restoration the specialty it names first. Its Houzz reviews run 2016 to 2017, and they come from the people who hired him for the big jobs. A 2016 client who had a 4,000-square-foot architect-designed home built in Hingham — a waterfront project they called complicated — wrote that, as a real estate professional who had worked with dozens of contractors, they put Jon at the top of the list. Another 2016 reviewer took a kitchen and first-floor renovation from architectural drawings and described him being involved in every part of it, on site or on the phone every day from demo day to the punch list. A 2017 client described a whole ranch-house project: an addition holding a new kitchen, living room, dining room and entry hall, with new bathrooms and a master suite added to the existing house. His peers show up in the reviews too — a timber-frame supplier who worked on one of his additions wrote in 2017 that he would absolutely recommend him. More recently, Horner Millwork's site and LinkedIn posts from 2024 and 2025 feature a Coastal New England-styled home Palmstrom built, for which the supplier furnished custom MDF interior doors, a mix of custom and stock mouldings, and stair parts. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active on the state registry. Houzz separately lists a licence number for the company, and lists the work as home remodeling, additions, custom homes and new construction, along with green building and historic building conservation. A good fit for a large, architect-involved addition, restoration or custom build where the finish detail is the point. The written customer accounts are from 2016 and 2017, so ask to walk a recent project of similar scope, and settle the schedule and the punch-list process before signing.

We hired Jon to build a new addition with a new kitchen, living room, dining room, and large entry hall onto our existing ranch home, and renovate our existing home by adding new bathrooms and a master suite, among other upgrades to the existing house (roof, electrical, etc.). He transformed our ranch into a gorgeous 2,600 sq. foot modern greek revival house and the job took about 9 months. Everyone who walks in is amazed by the detail and quality of Jon's work. Jon is an incredible craftsman and for a reasonable price can transform a modest house into a showpiece. Before hiring Jon we interviewed a few contractors, but Jon was the only one who came with a quote that also had detailed line items that described how much everything would cost and why. Jon is extremely honest and does not underbid or tell the homeowner what she or he wants to hear to get the job, and then raises the price once the job is ongoing. He stuck to the line item numbers he quoted us, unless the scope of work changed, at which point, Jon helped us negotiate with the subs. Will post pictures soon.
