John M. Barone is an individual plumber working out of 19 Allen Ave in Lynn, and the sturdiest thing known about him is the permit trail. BuildZoom counts 57 permitted projects on file, eight of them in the last three years — mostly plumbing and gas-fitting jobs pulled in Marblehead, Beverly, Burlington and Brookline between 2020 and 2024. Customer accounts are a different story. One homeowner has written about him publicly, a 1-star report from May 2022, and it is not a small complaint: they say he cashed their check on December 6, 2021 for plumbing work on a remodel, then pushed the start date for roughly six weeks; when they asked him to keep $500 and return $2,000, they say he refused to produce an invoice, and they were preparing to involve local and state officials. That lone account is why his BuildZoom score sits at 1.0. BuildZoom also shows Massachusetts licence numbers attached to his name, one of them a plumber licence — but the site labels them "License Not Verified", so read those as the directory's claim, not a confirmed credential. What that leaves is a permit-heavy, review-light picture: years of plumbing and gas permits on one side, and a single serious 2022 account of a job paid for and never done on the other. If you call him, ask for the licence number and check it against the state registry yourself, and get the scope, schedule and refund terms in writing before any money moves.

Typical plumbing job around $500
John was hired to do a plumbing job as part of our remodel. He cashed a check on December 6, 2021, accepting the position. When it came time to come in and do the job he kept putting off coming saying additional steps needed to be taken by our general contractor. This went on for approximately six weeks. We finally said to John to keep $500 and to return $2000 to us for the time he did spend on the job. We gave him the opportunity to create an invoice and he is now refusing. We now are taking steps to get our money back and will be working with the local and state officials to properly document the experience we have had.
