Nearly every job customers describe at JP O'Brien Electric runs through the same piece of hardware: the service panel. Upgrades from 100 to 200 amps, EV chargers hung off the new capacity, fresh circuits pulled into basements — that is the shape of the work in review after review. The Wilmington shop is small and has been at it a while. The BBB lists it as a limited partnership started on 1 January 2005 with three employees, managed by owner Joseph O'Brien; the company's own Porch page dates the founding to 2004, by Joseph O'Brien and David Niemi, both Medford electricians. Its Massachusetts electrician license, number 8431, is active. Twelve reviews run from 2021 through January 2026 and every one is five stars; Google shows 5.0 across 20 ratings, and the BBB grade is A+. The specifics carry more than the stars do. A January 2026 customer had the house rewired and the service upgraded, and singled out Dave Niemi for explaining code requirements and laying out the panel so later work would be simpler — then swinging back the same evening to replace a fuse. In February 2024 another homeowner contracted a 200A upgrade, an EV charger and a new circuit, and called the price competitive and the communication prompt. A 2021 reviewer had the 100-to-200 amp jump plus a Tesla charger. Smaller calls show up too: two dead outdoor GFCI outlets traced and replaced in April 2025, a retrofit ceiling-fan box and a fireplace outlet for a gas insert in September 2021, and 220V and 110V basement lines in January 2023. One number needs context. Porch advertises 4.8 stars from 339 reviews, but its own page says those are online reviews gathered from elsewhere rather than reviews written on Porch — Google's 20 ratings are the count actually sitting behind a star average here. For a panel upgrade, an EV charger, a generator hookup or a circuit run anywhere near Wilmington, this is a sensible call. Ask which of the two owners will be on the job — Joe O'Brien and Dave Niemi are both named repeatedly by customers — and if the work needs a town inspection, ask them to coordinate it, the way a January 2023 customer said they did.
JP O'Brien Electric rewired our home and upgraded our service. My experience with them was through Dave Niemi (co-owner of JP O'Brien Electric), and he was excellent. He was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, good at explaining code requirements and the intricacies of installation, and happy to plan a layout that worked for us and would make future work simpler and more straightforward. Dave responded quickly to our questions, and even swung by to replace a fuse the same evening I told him I was having trouble with it.
We have used J.P. Orientation for multiple jobs. Always top notch service. We are lucky to have them locally.
Joe is friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. He arrived within 10 minutes the first time and completed the project excellently with his team the second time. Highly recommend and would gladly collaborate with him again!
We had a great experience with OP O'Brien Electric and have been so happy with Dave and his whole team so far. They are responsive, professional, and very fair and honest from our experience so far. First they help setup an outlet for our generator for when the power goes out and they also setup the schedule for the electrial panel. More recently, they fixed some outlets that were out and did a great job and even fixed another issue while on site. We highly reccomend anyone looking for an electrician in Massachusetts to contact them and you won't be dissapointed!
ChoosingJP O'Brien Electric meant a seamless experience for our new lighting in Wilmington. The electrician was friendly, showed great respect for our property, and delivered perfect results. And yes, the pricing was fair!
