JP O'Brien Electric is a small Wilmington shop that's been doing residential electrical work since 2004 or 2005 — company records differ by a year on the exact founding date — run by co-owners Joseph O'Brien and Dave Niemi. Its Massachusetts electrician license is active and registry-verified. The reviews describe everything from small fixes to full service upgrades. In an October 2021 review, a homeowner said JP gave the most realistic quote for bumping a 100-amp service up to 200 amps and installed a Tesla charger on schedule. A February 2024 review describes a similar job — a 200-amp service upgrade plus an EV charger install and a new circuit — done at a competitive price with prompt communication. Joe himself shows up for smaller calls too: an April 2025 review describes him fixing two dead outdoor GFI outlets in one visit, and a September 2025 review says he arrived within 10 minutes of being called. In January 2026, one customer worked directly with Dave Niemi on a full home rewire and service upgrade and called him knowledgeable about code requirements. Reviewers across five years keep citing the same things: fair, competitive pricing, clear explanations of the work, and crews who clean up after themselves. A 2023 Reddit thread about smaller electrical jobs in the Medford area also mentioned a good experience with the company, unprompted. With three employees and about 20 years in business, this is a small operation rather than a large electrical contractor — for a straightforward service upgrade, EV charger, or repair job in the Wilmington area, JP O'Brien is a solid, well-documented call.
“for some of our smaller electrical work and had a good experience”
JP O'Brien Electric rewired our home and upgraded our service. My experience with them was through Dave Niemi (co-owner of JP O'Brien Electric), and he was excellent. He was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, good at explaining code requirements and the intricacies of installation, and happy to plan a layout that worked for us and would make future work simpler and more straightforward. Dave responded quickly to our questions, and even swung by to replace a fuse the same evening I told him I was having trouble with it.
We have used J.P. Orientation for multiple jobs. Always top notch service. We are lucky to have them locally.
Joe is friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. He arrived within 10 minutes the first time and completed the project excellently with his team the second time. Highly recommend and would gladly collaborate with him again!
We had a great experience with OP O'Brien Electric and have been so happy with Dave and his whole team so far. They are responsive, professional, and very fair and honest from our experience so far. First they help setup an outlet for our generator for when the power goes out and they also setup the schedule for the electrial panel. More recently, they fixed some outlets that were out and did a great job and even fixed another issue while on site. We highly reccomend anyone looking for an electrician in Massachusetts to contact them and you won't be dissapointed!
ChoosingJP O'Brien Electric meant a seamless experience for our new lighting in Wilmington. The electrician was friendly, showed great respect for our property, and delivered perfect results. And yes, the pricing was fair!
