JR's Home Improvement is Joseph Fernandes' Attleboro contracting company — the state registry holds Home Improvement Contractor registration 140779 in his name, active and running to 20 November 2027, and building-permit records show 166 permitted projects, fourteen of them in 2023 and four in 2024. The company's own site describes roofing, siding, painting, kitchen and bathroom remodeling and exterior work such as decks, patios, windows and doors across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The reviews split hard, and the split has a direction. Older and mid-record accounts are warm and specific. A homeowner writing in December 2025 described a steep gothic-style roof done in a couple of days back in 2019, and said that when a storm later took ridge shingles off, Joe came out, found a fallen branch was the cause, and charged nothing for the repair. In August 2025 a client was happy with a full window replacement and was planning a deck for the spring; in February 2026 another had an ice dam cleared within twelve hours of first contact. The three most recent reviews, all from July and August 2026, are one-star and describe the opposite experience. One says a simple three-room remodel took over two and a half years to finish. Another says every single thing the company was hired to do had to be redone by other firms. A third calls the crew unprofessional and unreliable, questions the use of nails on a floating floor, and says a typical workday was one or two people appearing for an hour or two and then disappearing. Those are complaints about the work itself and about schedule discipline, and they are the most current evidence on file. One piece of the public record needs correcting rather than believing. The Better Business Bureau flags the company as "believed to be out of business" — but that flag sits on its older 20 Guild Ave file, while the state registry issued Fernandes an active registration on 20 November 2025 and permit records show work through 2024. The business is trading; the BBB flag is stale. How long it has been trading is genuinely unclear. The company's own website says "over 27 years" on its home page and "over 20 years" in its footer, Angi's listing claims 26 years, and BBB records the business as started on 1 January 2008 and incorporated in January 2013. If you are considering them, the credential is real and easy to check for yourself. What the recent record says to pin down is the schedule: get a written completion date with milestones, agree what happens if it slips, and tie payments to progress. Ask specifically about crew size and who will be on site each day, because that is what the 2026 complaints keep returning to.

Unprofessional, unreliable, how does one use nails on a Floating Floor? typical workday cosisted of 1 or 2 people showing up for an hour, maybe 2 hours and dissapeared for the day.
We hired them for a simple 3 room remodel. They took over 2 1/2 years to complete it. They built an entire neighborhood behind us before the finished what they were hired for. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! If you do, you'll have to pay other companies to repair their shoddy work. EVERY SINGLE THING they were hired to do at our home had to be redone by other companies.
Highly recommend. Removed ice dam within 12 hours of initial contact. Fast and friendly. Thank you!
I had a new roof put on in 2019. It’s one of those steep gothic style houses so it’s a pretty good sized job. Joe and his crew had it done in a couple of days. About a month ago there was a storm and the next day I noticed that some ridge shingles were missing. I had 2 holes in my roof. I called Joe and when he came to fix it he discovered that it was caused by a branch that had fallen. I figured that it wouldn’t be covered by the warranty because it was not due to an installation issue. I asked Joe what I owed him and he said nothing. I am very happy with the work that Joe and his crew have done.
