Eight people wrote about Justbo Building Co, and seven of them keep circling the same name: Jim. Not the company — the man who showed up, quoted the job, and came back to check it. That is the shape of this Allston-based outfit at 56 Riverdale St in Boston: a small general contractor built around its owner, James Libby, who also holds the Massachusetts construction supervisor licence that lets the work proceed. The work runs wider than the "carpentry" label suggests. A condo association writing in March 2022 hired the crew to strip and re-side a section of their building in cedar shingles for $24,650, and said they finished a day ahead of schedule. A homeowner in February 2021 described a $10,000 basement remodel where problems got talked through as they came up rather than after the fact. Another, writing in January 2021, listed a porch rebuild, a re-routed basement door, painting, and a set of custom-built bunk beds for their kids — the range you get from a builder who does the carpentry himself. Exterior painting and $4,000 of foundation repair turn up in a January 2021 account; BuildZoom's own list runs from custom home builds through kitchens, baths, basements, concrete and historical restoration. The honest caveat is the age and the width of that record. Every written account sits between December 2020 and May 2022, all on a single site, and one of the eight is from someone who priced the job and then hired a contractor closer to it — a compliment, but not a customer. Nothing has been written about them since. The licences need a question too. Mr. Libby's construction supervisor number CS-087010 is active on the state register. Beyond that, BuildZoom lists four separate records — two different home improvement contractor numbers, one shown active and one shown inactive after being cancelled, plus a City of Newton building contractor registration — and two of them are printed as "Active" while carrying expiry dates that have already passed. Those are the directory's entries, not confirmations. Good fit for an owner-run exterior or whole-house job on the North Shore or in Boston where you want the same person on site all the way through. Before booking, ask him directly for the current home improvement contractor registration number and check it against the state's Consumer Affairs register, and ask for a recent reference — the written trail stops in 2022.

Re-shingle portion of building $24,650 — Our Condo Association hired Justbo to strip and re-side a section of our building with cedar shingles. Jim and his crew worked tirelessly, where professional, highly organized and took great pride in their work. Plus they finished a day ahead of schedule. They were a pleasure to work with and we would definitely recommend them for your next building project.

Historical Restoration project — Jim was the best communicator - responded promptly, inspected the house right away and sent me quote that was very reasonable and fair. It was a difficult decision but we are going with a contractor who is more local to the job. However, based on my experience with him I would hire him for other work in the future and recommend him to others.

basement remodel $10,000 — I was very pleased hiring Jim for his services. He was very knowledgeable in his work, showed up on time, cleaned up at the end of the day, but more importantly build trust with his clients. He worked with me every step of the way throughout the duration of the project and if any issues arose we would talk it through. He was efficient, communitive, and honest. I am looking forward of hiring him again for future projects!

Mr. James/JUSTBO is very knowledgeable, he has done a few projects for me, one was a few years ago he redid my porch and re routed my basement door. He has recently done some painting and he custom-built bunk beds for my kids. He is a pleasure to work with, and very dependable. Will definitely use him and refer him to others in the future.
