Kaswell Flooring Systems has been making end-grain wood block flooring in Ashland, Massachusetts since 1946, and its floors keep turning up in the trade press decades later — Architectural Record, Retrofit Magazine, and Wood Floor Business have all featured its end-grain, edge-grain, and engineered hardwood work on commercial and hospitality projects. Harold Kaswell started the company and his son Norman joined in 1971; a third generation, grandson Joshua Kaswell, now runs it as managing director. It's a narrow specialty rather than a general flooring shop, and the handful of public reviews line up with that focus: a 2017 Houzz reviewer called the sales staff diligent and said pricing was in line with other vendors, and a 2025 Google review praised the products and singled out a staff member, Catherine, by name for being very responsive. There isn't a deep public review base here — just two written accounts, both five stars — alongside a run of trade-publication project mentions going back to 2000. That's typical for a manufacturer whose business runs through architects and commercial buyers rather than a high-volume residential review pipeline, so it's worth going in expecting limited crowd-sourced feedback. Kaswell is the right call for a distinctive end-grain, edge-grain, or engineered hardwood floor — the kind of specialty product architects spec by name — rather than a general flooring install or refinishing job. Worth confirming lead times and installation scheduling directly, since most of what's public is about the product and the company's history rather than day-to-day service logistics.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Kaswell Flooring Systems. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Kaswell is GREAT!!! We love their products and their customer service, especially Catherine - is unmatched!!! Great product - very responsive - all around solid company
Diligent sales staff. Beautiful samples. Large variety - my favorites are the fir strip and the oak strip end grain. Pricing seems in line with other vendors. Still too early to order, but going in that direction just because of the responsiveness.
