Bob did a decent job on some smaller jobs, so I hired him for more substantial work. He underestimated the full scope by $5650. I work in a construction-adjacent industry that bills monthly and reconciles at the end of projects, so I’m okay with paying for time and materials as I go. That was a huge mistake on my part. When I reviewed the receipts and payments with Bob at the agreed-upon project pause for summer activities, he acted shocked that he underestimated so badly, couldn’t account for the costs, apologized, and said that he would come back in the Fall and finish the remaining items, as well as fix my driveway, which he ruined with oil spots from his truck. I understand that projects go over due to various circumstances. That’s what change orders are for. But at no point did Bob communicate any overages. But seeing his accounting practices (which amounts to a pile of receipts), I’m not surprised that he was so confused by his own billing. Still, things happen and I was willing to wait until Fall to have him make it right, as he promised. He was very communicative until that point. Now I can’t get him to respond. He left my driveway ruined, my garage a mess, and there are multiple fixes that I have to handle myself (areas in the kitchen he didn’t paint, huge gaps under doors, missing floor trim behind my couch, incorrect installations with stripped bolts that I can’t fix, drywall and floor sanding that was never completed… the list goes on). I gave him ample time and opportunity to make it right and communicate but he is ignoring me at this point (it’s been over two months). If he gets back to me, I’ll update this review.

Bob Kirk has completed many contracting and painting jobs for me over the past ten years. He is multi-talented and took on whatever I needed done ranging from rebuilding decks to sanding floors to painting inside and outside. The quality of his work is excellent and his prices are fair.
