Seventy-two permits, and a striking number of them are Marblehead addresses: second- and third-story additions, an elevator shaft, a two-car garage joined to the house by a breezeway, a screened-deck addition off the back. Leland M Hussey Contractor works out of 190 Locust St in Lynn, and the permit trail says plainly what kind of outfit it is — structural, multi-room, six-figure work rather than small repairs. BuildZoom puts the typical permit value around $93,200 and counts 12 projects in the last three years, so the shop is still busy. The written customer record is real but dated. Eleven reviews on Houzz average 4.9, and apart from one from December 2020 they were all posted in 2016. What makes them worth reading is that they aren't interchangeable: they name the same people across different jobs, which is unusual in a five-star set. A homeowner writing in 2016 credited project manager Azriel Shiloh with the design suggestions that shaped their patio; another that year described three months of second-floor work while pregnant with a toddler in the house, and singled out the dust containment and the daily sweep-up. In a December 2020 review, a condo owner having a bay window fixed and windows replaced named Marcone as the lead and noted it was their second job with the company. Several customers mention coming back a second or third time. The honest caveat is that this praise is five to ten years old. Nothing written describes the crew as it stands today, and reviewers repeatedly reference an owner working alongside a named design partner — arrangements that may or may not still hold. The credential picture needs a direct question. The state registry shows Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration 101743, held under the name Leland M. Hussey, as expired. That registration is what backs the Home Improvement Contractor Guaranty Fund on non-structural residential work, so its lapse is worth raising before signing anything. Separately, BuildZoom and Houzz both list construction supervisor licence CS-032197 for the company; that is the directories' claim, and BuildZoom contradicts itself about the HIC number in the same breath, calling it Active in one line and cancelled in another. Good fit for a substantial North Shore project — an addition, a gut kitchen, structural work on an older house — where the permit history is the strongest evidence you'll get. Ask for the current status of both licence numbers in writing, and for two or three recent job references, since the written record stops in 2020.

We hired Leland's company to help us fix a bay window and replace windows in our condo. That's the 2nd time we've worked with them. They were very professional, from the initial contact and quote process all the way to the installation on side. Marcone was the lead during the work and took great care of us. He spent time explaining us what was going on, give us options when choices had to be made. The work was of quality and they paid attention to details. Would work with them again in a heartbeat.

Lee did a major renovation of our kitchen and great room last year. The work was absolutely top notch. His rates were competitive. His crew were polite, professional, and pleasant to be around. This is key when having workers in your home for several months. Lee pays attention to detail and understands what works and what doesn't. When input was needed on major decisions, he was able to contribute in a way that was helpful, yet made us feel like the decision came from us uninfluenced. There really were no major issues. While every project will have it's snafu(s), ours were minimal at best and were resolved immediately. In addition to our absolutely beautiful kitchen and great room that we now enjoy immensely, we are also overjoyed that we have "our contractor" for any future projects.

Lee Hussey had previously renovated a spare bedroom in our house into a study, complete with fireplace, which we were very happy with, so we went back to him when we needed an outdoor patio/deck. Azriel Shiloh was the project manager and he was very helpful and responsive. He also is extremely professional. The project was done quickly, on time, within budget, and the results were beautiful. Azriel also has a great feel for design and gave us some suggestions that we incorporated into the final plan. We enjoy that patio every day!

Leland Hussey Contracting did an excellent job remodeling our kitchen and bathroom. The quality of the work was excellent and the team was responsive to the tweaks we wanted to make along the way. We live in an old house and during the process uncovered issues that would have added to the cost of the job. Lee always presented us with the range of options and never pushed us toward the most expensive solution. We also enjoyed working with Shannon Croft a design firm that partners with Lee on many jobs. The crew was respectful and friendly, making it not as hard to have a bunch of strangers in the house for many weeks. We are very pleased with the work and highly recommend Lee and his team.

We have worked with Lee and his team on gut remodels of a bathroom and our kitchen. They and the subs they used were great to work with and did very nice work
