The same complaint turns up in three separate reviews, years apart: he stops answering. Luxe Renovations & Co is a one-employee business run by Arthur Oliveira, started in February 2019, listed at 97 Waldemar Ave in East Boston on its BBB file and at 20 Augustus Street in Revere on BuildZoom. Houzz files it under paint and wall coverings, and the work it names is finish trades — painting, wallcoverings, cabinet refinishing — across a broad Greater Boston service area. The good review is real, and worth reading first. In October 2021 a homeowner wrote that Arthur delivered a cabinet-refinishing kitchen project on time and on budget, walked them through the design and even collected the tile, leaving a kitchen that "looks brand new without the cost and hassle of replacing our cabinets." The rest runs the other way, and it runs the same way each time. In September 2020 a customer described the job going "unresponsive, sloppy and unprofessional once the initial phase of the job was completed," with contracted work left undone. In January 2021 another described major work that left tile problems and holes in walls, calls that went unreturned, and no repairs: "He abandoned me." In August 2022 a repeat customer — someone who had hired him successfully before — described repeated no-shows, unanswered email and phone, and a job that should have taken a week taking over three months of rescheduling. The Better Business Bureau grades the company B-, and states the reason plainly: failure to respond to a complaint filed against it. That complaint is on file. Then there is the registration. BuildZoom lists Massachusetts general contractor and home improvement contractor licence #200688 with an expiration date of 14 January 2025, and says that when it last checked, on 29 March 2026, the licence was expired. In Massachusetts, HIC registration is what gives a homeowner access to the Guaranty Fund, so confirm the current status with the Office of Consumer Affairs before any money moves. If you go ahead anyway — and the 2021 kitchen says the work can be good — put the full scope and schedule in writing, tie payments to completed stages, hold back a meaningful final payment, and settle the registration question first.
I have worked with Arthur multiple times over the past few years. The first 1-2x I hired him and his team they were timely, and the work and pricing was decent. However over the past couple years when I have tried to schedule various small projects (with plenty of flexibility on my end), he has repeatedly dropped in the ball on both communication and followthrough. Multiple times I have scheduled for them to do work and they never show up. Never answers email or phone, only occasionally returns my texts. One job took over 3 months of constant rescheduling for them to finally complete, when it should have only taken a week. Super unprofessional, look elsewhere.
My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with the results of the project. Arthur was able to deliver everything that we had asked for on time and on budget. Helped through the full design process, and even picked up the tile for us. No unexpected surprises. Our kitchen looks brand new without the cost and hassle of replacing our cabinets. We were referred to Luxe Renovations and Arthur from a friend and we are glad that we reached out! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a reliable contractor!
Do not use this company. The person in charge, Arthur is unreliable, undependable and inconsiderate. I had major work done on my house and there where many problems, tile work, holes in wall etc. after it was finished. The person who did the tile work in the kitchen did not know what he was doing. I called Arthur many times but he would not return my calls and did not follow up to repair work on things that were bad. Now when I call I still can not get in touch with him. He abandoned me. So, I would stay away from this person and Do not use this company.
Unresponsive, sloppy and unprofessional once the initial phase of the job was completed. Did not complete all of the contracted work and fix drips, spills, and sloppiness. Look elsewhere.
We started the project on May 5, 2025 with this company. At that time we were told that the renovation (Kitchen and REMOVED) would take 30 days, June 1 was the target date.
