Read the reviews of this Hanson outfit and one name keeps turning up: Mark, who shows up for the estimate and is still there when the last paver goes down. MAC Excavation & Landscape works out of 157 Independence Ave in Hanson and covers the South Shore — Pembroke, Hanover, Duxbury, Marshfield, Scituate, Plymouth, Halifax and a dozen more towns, by its own account. The work splits between dirt and stone: excavation, grading, drainage and septic installation on one side; paver patios, walkways and retaining walls on the other. Its Angi profile claims twelve years in business. The written history is short and uniformly positive. Google carries 5.0 from 16 ratings and Angi 5.0 from 7, with every rating on both a five. The specifics repeat: a 9-by-9 paver platform with a retaining wall built to hold a hot tub on a two-foot slope, put in during the first heatwave of the summer; a fieldstone retaining wall where the homeowner wished there were ten stars to check; a twenty-year-old walkway brought back, in an April 2026 review, "to its original level and like-new form." A January 2025 customer hired them for holiday lighting instead — a fair sign of how far the work mix stretches. Two things to pin down before booking. The whole written record starts in 2025, and the twelve years Angi lists don't show up anywhere in it, so ask directly how long the crew has been doing this work and for references from older jobs. Angi's page also states the company offers no warranties and doesn't take emergency calls, which is worth settling in writing before a wall or patio goes in. It's also worth knowing the two review counts overlap rather than add up: Angi labels five of its seven reviews as re-posted Google reviews, so this is closer to sixteen customers than twenty-three. For a South Shore homeowner who wants a patio, a walkway or a retaining wall — or a septic and site-prep job handled by one crew rather than three — this is a small, owner-run operation with a young but unblemished run of jobs behind it. Confirm the tenure, get the scope and any workmanship guarantee down on paper, and ask to see a wall they built three or four seasons ago.
These guys were terrific. From the initial meeting with Mark, he was friendly, transparent about the process and pricing and genuinely excited to understand my goals and help work with me to hit them. The workmanship was of the highest quality and they left the space immaculate every day. I truly felt they went above and beyond to ensure this patio turned out amazing and cared about the finished product as much as me. I did a lot of research beforehand and had a few competitors come out - the work that Mark and his team did, reaffirmed they were always the best choice and I’m looking forward to working with them again soon.
Mark and his crew did an outstanding job building a 9’ X 9’ paver platform with a retaining wall to support my new hot-tub… not an easy design with a 2’ land slope involved and not to mention the first heatwave of the summer… I’d highly recommend Mark, especially if you have a challenging project in mind!
I wish there were ten stars to check! Mark, and his capable crew., just completed a fieldstone retaining wall at my home. At every turn in the process, from estimating the job, to the completion, Mark proved to be professional, timely, reliable , and has strong communication skills. It is without a single reservation that my husband, and I, would recommend him, and Mac Excavating & Landscaping, as a company that you would be fortunate to hire.
Mark at MAC Excavation and Landscape was great. Very communicative and did a great job. Very professional. We will definitely hire MAC again.
The team did a great job first diagnosing the issues with our walkway and then coming up with a plan to rectify the issues. They rejuvenated a twenty year old walkway to its original level and like-new form.
