Mainely Grass is a lawn treatment company working out of 120 Lumber Ln in Tewksbury, one of five branches it runs across Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Its work is programs rather than projects: seasonal fertilization and weed control, aeration and overseeding, organic lawn programs, and tick and mosquito spraying — not mowing, planting or hardscape. The company describes itself as a locally owned New England operation with 25 years behind it, and the Better Business Bureau's file puts the business start at 1998 with incorporation in 2005 and 37 employees. Trade-press coverage reports the company was acquired in 2017 and places its head office in Bedford, New Hampshire, with an earlier article naming its CEO in Portland, Maine — so the Tewksbury address is a branch of a multi-state firm rather than a single-town business. Customers who stay with it tend to stay a long time. One reviewer in 2026 wrote of being a customer for over ten years and getting the service promised each season; another, in 2023, praised the soil tests and the detailed notes the technician leaves after every visit, saying the fertilizer plan felt tailored rather than a blanket application. A 2026 review of a tick-control visit named the technician and described him explaining the process and what to expect afterward, and a 2025 reviewer named both the salesperson and the account manager who handled their questions. Two things deserve questions before you sign. First, results on a difficult lawn: a customer whose review was downgraded to two stars said moss and dead spots persisted through a discounted 2024 season and that the company's representative attributed it to shade and tree cover, an assessment the homeowner disputed before cancelling. Second, and more seriously, Maine's pesticide regulator has an enforcement case against the company covering failure to notify people on the state's pesticide notification registry, unauthorized application, use inconsistent with the product label, and off-target drift. If you or a neighbour are sensitive to spray — bees, a garden, a well, a registry listing — ask directly how notification is handled here and what the crew does about wind and drift. The review record is thin for a company this size — five comments across sources — so the strongest evidence of how it performs is the long-tenure customers and the regulator's file, not volume. It suits a homeowner who wants a recurring treatment program with written visit notes; get the notification and drift practices, and the plan for shaded turf, answered up front.

Daniel Rojas from Mainely Grass recently came to our home for a tick control spray treatment, and we couldn’t be happier with the service. He was professional, friendly, and took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly. Daniel worked efficiently while making sure we understood the process and what to expect afterward. It’s clear he takes pride in his work and cares about his customers. We had a great experience and highly recommend Daniel and Mainely Grass for anyone looking for tick control services.
I have been with Mainely Grass for over 10 years now and every year they bring the service they promise. Always professional, knowledgeable and trustworthy. Thank you so much for all you do and always with a smile!
We have been doing our lawn (mowing & fertilizing) for over 15 years and enjoyed every bit of our time on it. Sadly our aging body has slowed us down and our neighbor recommended us to Mainely Grass Lawn Care. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the staff at Mainely Grass Lawn Care: Kristen Morneau was fabulous and she explained all the services Mainely Grass Lawn Care offers. Hayleigh Perkins, Account Manager is responsive in all my communications whenever we may have questions about what Mainely Grass will be doing on the day they are on our property to service our lawn care. Hayleigh is pleasant and she is such a joy to work with. Daniel Rojas, lawn technician, is extremely knowledgable about lawn care; he works with his customers and he explains everything he will be doing to our lawn. Since having Mainely Grass do our lawn care starting late summer of this year: (fertilizing, aeration/overseeding and final stage-winterizing), our lawn has come back to where it should look like - plush and healthy. We are extremely happy with the results. I highly recommend Mainely Grass Lawn Care.
5/6/26 I realized that I left this review incomplete, so I’m closing it out now. We received a discount for the 2024 season, but the results were still unsatisfactory. The moss and dead spots continued. Although we had success with another lawn service previously, Greg Ciotti (our Mainely Grass rep during 2024) basically said we were out of luck due to the amount of shade and trees on our property. I disagreed with his assessment, and we discontinued our service with them after the 2024 season. This review has been downgraded to two stars. If not for the discount during the final year, it would be one star. Their admission that our lawn was beyond their capabilities should have been made at the outset, or at the least they should’ve raised it as a serious risk. That lack of transparency led to us wasting thousands of dollars on their services. 4/2/24 Edward (CEO) and Will (Branch Manager) from Mainely Grass have reached out, and Will is working with me to try to make this right. I'll revisit this review again after sufficient time has passed, and provide a new rating based on the results. 3/23/24 We had a terrible experience with Mainely Grass. We used them for two plus seasons, at a cost of around $1,000/full season for our 1/4 acre or so lawn. We initially had a moss issue in a small part of the yard. We were told when we signed up that the lime treatments which were included in the cost would take care of the issue along with the aeration/over-seeding (an extra that we purchased). That was not the case, as the yard is now being over-run with moss. I emailed them, asking them to either correct the moss problem or cancel our service for the upcoming season and give us a refund. I had multiple email exchanges with one of their reps, Mike Flaherty. He said we should've taken them up on the lime "amendments" that they offer at an extra cost. It never crossed our minds that those amendments were required for us, as our invoice for the 2023 season indicated that "ph Maintenance" was free and we never received any additional lime-related invoices during the season. With each email response he refused to offer any kind of assistance and failed to address my cancellation/refund request. I finally called their office and spoke to Miranda, who was very nice. Although she couldn't rectify the situation, she canceled our service for the 2024 season, processed the refund immediately and said that she would communicate my concerns to management. This was a nightmare. I know the reviews are very good, and that was the main reason we went with Mainely Grass. Buyer beware though. We've thrown away thousands of dollars all told since we started with them, and to make matters worse we now have a large portion of our lawn to restore.
These guys are the real deal. Been using Mainly Grass for a couple years now, and I can confidently say my lawn is the envy of the neighborhood. I get compliments all the time! I love the soil tests and the detailed notes the technician leaves behind after each visit. As a guy who “likes to know how the soup is made“ I appreciate that transparency and gives me the confidence I’m getting a fertilizer plan that is tailored to me and not just wastefully pumping my lawn and the environment full of chemicals. Their recommendations seem thoughtful and reasonable and I never feel like I’m being “sold”. I appreciate what you guys do 🤙
