The licence needs checking before anything else. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts roofer and home improvement contractor licence, #211158, as inactive with a February 2026 expiration, and reports that Mass.gov's Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation showed it cancelled at one point. Ask the company for its current registration number and check it against the state's own records before signing anything or paying a deposit. The listings also disagree about how long the company has been at it. Angi and HomeAdvisor both say 26 years of experience; Thumbtack says 21 years in business with 30 employees, while one 2024 customer called it a nice family business. For a driveway, a retaining wall, walkway pavers or a basement, customers describe fast, on-schedule work from a crew that showed up daily. Sort the registration out first, then get the scope, the timeline and the payment schedule in writing.
