Marathon Moving is a Canton, MA outfit serving the greater Boston area, with a trade-review profile putting its founding at 2000 and crediting it with more than 40,000 relocations by 2022. Google shows a 4.6-star average from 277 ratings, and independent scoring sites rate it well too -- an 8.26/10 on GreatGuysMove and a 9.4/10 on Sirelo. The one thing worth knowing up front: the most recent review on file, from July, describes a whole-house pack-up and storage job during a renovation where nearly everything came back damaged -- a mirrored jewelry armoire with shattered glass, a dented and chipped bed frame, a water-damaged rug, and a storage cabinet the reviewer says was ruined because it was disassembled incorrectly. Across its longer history, reviewers repeatedly single out named crews for careful, friendly work on local and long-distance moves -- but that same longer record also includes a recurring minority of serious complaints: customers describing surprise charges added weeks after a move was paid in full, an interstate move where a shipment arrived ten days late, and moves where parts of the job were subcontracted to third parties with mixed results, including one case of severely damaged heirloom furniture. Before booking, it's worth asking directly how the company handles storage of fragile and disassembled furniture, whether your move (especially any long-distance leg) will be handled by Marathon's own crew or a subcontractor, and getting the final price confirmed in writing to avoid post-move billing adjustments. This reads like an established, high-volume mover with real experience -- but the mix of a damaging recent review and a real pattern of billing and subcontracting complaints means it's worth a cautious, detail-oriented conversation before signing, especially for a long-distance or storage-involved move.

Worst moving company ever! I have moved numerous times in my life. Some on my own and some relocation for work. This particular time, I didn’t not even move….I simply needed a total house pack up and storage while a house renovation was taking place. Literally almost every item got ruined: Mirrored jewelry armoire, broken glass!; Pottery Barn Wood Bed was dented and chipped; tv Deco frame, chipped; shag rug and pad had water damage; Pottery Barn white storage cabinet completely ruined due to incorrect disassemble and storage; closet storage system completely ruined.

Complete Scam! Do not waste your time with any of their auctions. The day of the auction i watched multiple employees taking items out of the vaults and putting them away for themselves almost like they knew what they were taking. No ones seemed to care or say anything. I learned today that the majority of the vaults are employees and family of employees and are used as storage. As one employee put it while I was removing HIS unit, "it was nice having free storage". Don't stress yourself wasting your time energy effort or money. These people are going out of business for a reason.

Moved from Boston to central Virginia, using Marathon Moving and Allied. A huge thank you to Billy and Bob for packing up, and Lou for driving and unpacking. They were very efficient, professional, and friendly. This was my first time using professional movers and I was surprised at how intact and clean my things were. Definitely worth it.

I am a Senior move manager (downsize older adults) and work with many movers around the Boston area. Marathon exceeded all my expectations. Friendly, respectful and professional crew to load and unload, helpful support staff in office to follow up on questions before the move and ask for feedback afterwards. Thorough and professional sales/estimator. Can't say enough good things!

Adding to this 2 years later as I got to work on an interstate move with the wonderful Jeremiah! Fabulous mover…knowledgeable, patient and thorough!
