Marathon Moving is a Canton-based moving company that works across Massachusetts and into long-distance relocations, often coordinating with national carriers like Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines on out-of-state jobs. The through-line across dozens of Google reviews from 2022 through 2025 is a genuinely large, mostly well-regarded crew — reviewers name specific movers over and over (Juan, Billy, Carlos, Dennis, Lillian in the office) and describe careful, efficient work: getting an oversized couch up a tight third-floor staircase, a four-stop move executed without a hitch, antique furniture disassembled and reassembled without damage. One reviewer, a professional senior-move manager who works with many Boston-area movers, called Marathon's crew the best she'd worked with. The written record also carries real complaints, and they cluster around a few specific issues rather than being scattered noise. Several reviewers describe items broken or missing after a move — one in 2024 found broken and missing belongings only after unpacking storage weeks later, another in 2022 discovered damage to items left wrapped in storage. A 2025 review described a delayed interstate delivery that arrived ten days after the promised window, leaving the household without furniture and kitchen equipment in the meantime. Another 2025 review, about a self-storage auction, said the reviewer watched employees remove items from storage vaults before the public sale — a serious claim, though it comes from a single account rather than a pattern seen elsewhere. On long-distance moves specifically, more than one reviewer was surprised to learn work gets subcontracted out under the Allied Van Lines partnership rather than handled by Marathon's own crew start to finish. Recent activity is thin — just one review in the past six months, and it was negative — so the last word here leans on 2024 and 2025 accounts rather than anything current. Before booking, it's worth asking directly who will actually handle a long-distance move (Marathon's own crew or a subcontracted carrier), getting damage and delay terms in writing, and, for anyone using their storage, understanding how the auction process for unclaimed units works.
“When we moved the the Boston Burbs from the city Marathon Moving was great. All the movers did a thoughtful job.”
Worst moving company ever! I have moved numerous times in my life. Some on my own and some relocation for work. This particular time, I didn’t not even move….I simply needed a total house pack up and storage while a house renovation was taking place. Literally almost every item got ruined: Mirrored jewelry armoire, broken glass!; Pottery Barn Wood Bed was dented and chipped; tv Deco frame, chipped; shag rug and pad had water damage; Pottery Barn white storage cabinet completely ruined due to incorrect disassemble and storage; closet storage system completely ruined.
Complete Scam! Do not waste your time with any of their auctions. The day of the auction i watched multiple employees taking items out of the vaults and putting them away for themselves almost like they knew what they were taking. No ones seemed to care or say anything. I learned today that the majority of the vaults are employees and family of employees and are used as storage. As one employee put it while I was removing HIS unit, "it was nice having free storage". Don't stress yourself wasting your time energy effort or money. These people are going out of business for a reason.
Moved from Boston to central Virginia, using Marathon Moving and Allied. A huge thank you to Billy and Bob for packing up, and Lou for driving and unpacking. They were very efficient, professional, and friendly. This was my first time using professional movers and I was surprised at how intact and clean my things were. Definitely worth it.
I am a Senior move manager (downsize older adults) and work with many movers around the Boston area. Marathon exceeded all my expectations. Friendly, respectful and professional crew to load and unload, helpful support staff in office to follow up on questions before the move and ask for feedback afterwards. Thorough and professional sales/estimator. Can't say enough good things! Adding to this 2 years later as I got to work on an interstate move with the wonderful Jeremiah! Fabulous mover…knowledgeable, patient and thorough!
Great people doing Great things!!!
